Scotts Steering Damper -- Anyone using one?

Anyone using a Scotts steering damper on their KDX? If so I was wondering how much difference you could tell after you put it on? Was your ability to run over rocks/roots/ruts and hit treets and not go down or have the bars jerking around on you improved?
I ride in single-track woods and am considering getting one. There are a lot of golf ball and baseball-sized rocks where I ride and plenty of exposed roots and they give me trouble.
Thanks for any opinions!

Along those same lines, has anyone tried a W.E.R. damper? Anyone compared it to a Scott's? How was installation of either unit? Thanks in advance.

Dampers are like cheating. Things like roots, rocks, sand, just aren't as challenging as they once were. WER cannot be adjusted while riding, so I prefer Scotts. The GPR is also getting good reviews among the desert guys.
Well worth the investment, IMO.

As Strick says, a damper is like cheating. The WER is great for woods riding. It only damps when turning away from center. Return to center is undamped. It does not interfere with the bikes nimble feeling on technical trails. Mostly I don't notice it's there until a big hit or someone makes me ride a KDX without one. The "can't be adjusted while riding" thing makes it sound like you need three mechanics and a winch. The reality is less complicated: Pull to the side of the trail, reach over the bars and turn the adjuster nob, continue on your way. Installation is less complicated than a Scotts or GPR (both good units).

As mentioned above they work...but they are sneaky good. You don't notice any big difference until you need it or if you take it off. Then things get busier! Click on my picture page below to see my WER mounted. As far as setting them on the fly, I never feel the need so far; it's been good where I've got it. I got one for the deep sand we have here in Michigan to keep the front true on the single track. It helps track in the whoops too. I've noticed that it helps keep the bars in my hands when I bump a tree at speed too. The KDX is a bit of a twitchy bike so these dampeners really help them. I imagine that it will help quite a bit in the rocky trails you ride too, your front will wander but more controllably.

Dampers RULE! Had a WER on my last two KDX's and use a Scotts on my current ride. Both work great! Doesn't matter which damper you get, just get one! They are a big plus in the woods, roots, rocks, high speed, etc...
There are 3 things I'll do to every bike: 1) Get the jetting right 2) Dial in the suspension 3) Install a steering damper

I like the scotts, its the very best unit. Scotts was the first one out there with a good one. I have one on my XR-400, and on my 520exc, and my son has one on his KX-100. I ride the calif desert and the limited trails in the area. I can transverse the tight rockey stuff with little trouble, the deep sand washes that had BIG hidden rocks, the damper lets you ride without getting the bars ripped out of your grip !. Remember the scotts has high speed and low speed adjustments and they work, the GPR is only a stablizer.
