Interested in getting more power out of my TTR 250. Wandering what a pipe, silencer, and carb would do for my bike. Also considering suspension work. What do you suggest? I weigh 150 lbs. and ride GNCC in the four stroke C class. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
P.S. Any aftermarket parts for this bike?

FMF Megamax is a must for this bike. It is a ton lighter and much more useable power. This will bring a big grin. Had race tech ?gold valve the front end with proper springs and that helped immensely. The bike is quick through the woods. I hear the pumper carb from thumper racing will improve it too, but haven't tried it yet. Waiting on availability of a rear spring to redo the rear of the bike. Also thinking of a 325 kit. The stock tires are junk, replace them with some Bridgestone M77&78. Get some renthal bars, the stockers are junk. Also had the battery quit out of the blue one day. It is a Yamaha only item and has to be ordered. That is the only problem I've had with the bike. Enjoy

Has anyone tried the pumper carb from thumper racing for their ttr250? I believe the website says "the way it should have come from the factory" sounds good, but for $350 it better be. I have had my ttr250 for about a month and I love it. As far as I am concerned it is a great trail bike. I ride mostly in the desert by las vegas. Lots of rocks and gravel. Although I have recently been on some great trails that are miles of sand whoops. Talk about a work out! I have to give some serious praise to the stock suspension, either that or to god. This weekend we were cruising through a dry lake bed at about 45-50mph my buddy is infont of me on a kdx200. I see him wave at me and I go "Why is he waving at me?......WHAM!":scream:
There was a raised road right in middle of the dry lake (so when the lake fills, they can still drive on it) To put this road in they grade it so the ground goes up about 3 feet in about a foot. My buddy said that I invented a new sport---Desert Freestyle! This thing launched me way into the sky and my feet were in sky and my face was kissing the gastank. But..... I did not wreck! I was shocked but I made it. And I am waaaay to old for that stuff.
So...I like the suspension.

Oh yea, I have the big gun header and pipe. No joke you will lose a ton by dumping the stock exhaust, it think they used lead for the packing. I bought the bike with the big gun on it so I don't have a before or after comparison. But.. it does pull harder than my 91 dr350(bone stock) for whatever that is worth.

Thanks for the advice. I am leaning toward all Stroker products. SRC fork brace and aftermarket kick starter. If anyone is interested in the kick starter contact your local Yamaha dealer for the GYT-R department. Kick starters are $300. In my opinion, 300 dollars is worth if your battery dies or you rip off your starter button. I did that at a GNCC race this year. Sucks!:scream: Have done a tone of research. Anyone have any ideas on where I can find more information. So far, Stroker offers the most for the TTR. SRC offers a 280 kit but that's about it. Looking for good websites. Especially for aftermarket plastic because they are EXPENSIVE!!
Thanks again. I think I am going to like this website.

I have a 99 TTR 250 and really am pleased with it . I own a number of dirt bikes and probably ride the TTR more than any of the others. I have had no problems with it. I give it normal maintenace and it has performed well. I have a Big Gun Exhaust system, air box mods and a twin air filter. My riding buddy has a box stock TTR and mine has noticably more performance. Other mods are aluminum skid plate. aluminum bars and handguards, electronic speedo and GPS. I am satisfied with the stock suspension, after getting it dialed in, but if I decide to spend more money on the bike, it will be sending off the suspension components rather than on more horsepower. The TTR's are a very good trail bike. If I was going to be racing seriously I would buy a WR 250F, but for a comfortable, easy to maintain, reliable and low maintenance trailbike, the TTR is hard to beat.

LVMarc,

I've been running the Stroker Mikuni carb on my 99 TTR-250 for over 2 years and love it. Well worth the money. Its a pretty simple bolt on installation, just follow their instructions.
I've installed pretty much all the Stroker performance mods to the bike.
Exhaust, header pipe, carb, breather kit and graphics/seat cover.

As far as the suspension I've made a few adjustments to stiffen it up. On the forks I went from 10 clicks out (stock setting) to 6, this really helped in the whoops and jumps. For the rear shock (via the remote-reservoir's compression adjuster) I turned it in 4 clicks (to 6 out).

I've found the Michelin M12's to be a good medium terrain tire for my area/terrain, works much better and lasts a lot longer that the stock Dunlops.
The only problem I've experienced with my tires have been the spoke nipples.
Came off a table top and threw a spoke. Luckily I saw it "fly" and was able to retrieve it. I did loose the nipple inside the rim which caused me to flat a few minutes later. SO CHECK YOUR SPOKES!!! I found the majority of them to be loose.

If you haven't already, you might want to open up the air box. I took a hack saw blade and opened it up considerably. A mandatory fix if you run the larger carb...should improve performance on the stock carb also!

Fergy, thanks for the info on the carb. I emailed stroker, and they don't sell the carb anymore.:silly: Do you have the exact model number? Did it come with any adapters or other extras to fit it to your ttr? Can you post the recommended jetting?

thanks,

p.s. did a lot of gravel riding this weekend (mostly long washes) and the newly installed WER Steering dampner seemed to work very well. I am not sure if it was a placebo effect or not. But it seemed like as long as I was going strait, it was like being on pavement--very little "wallow" and then when I got into turns, as long as I planted the front tire well, it turned with little hesitation. (as opposed to my dr350 in a gravel turn---Turn!, please turn, oh come on...please please turn, oh-my-god you better turn now, geezus Im not kidding TURN! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Hey, I made it... uh oh here comes another turn......)

LVMarc,

I'll try to stick my head under the tank and locate the model number. As far as I can rember, Stroker re-jetted the carb so it was a bolt on installation. I guess I'll have to take it out and pull it apart to get you the jettings. I should have written them down when I pull the carb apart a few weeks ago.
I think the instructions call for the installer (you) to file down the stock mounting plate (carb) about an 1/8" to complete the installation. No adapters or other extras were required. The Mikuni carb uses only one of the two throttle cables (push Vs pull), so it would be best to remove the one that not required (I kept mine installed into the throttle and coiled up the remainder under the tank. Not a good idea, this put too much restriction on the cable causing it to hang up).

If there is still interest on your part for the Mukini carb, you might be able to locate them on the web (maybe under mikunicarb.com??).

Good luck

Fergy

I'm suprised that Stroker doesn't sell the carb anymore, or that they could not provide you with the carb info you requested.

LVMarc,

I finally got my head out from under the tank and pulled the Mikuni Carb jet numbers per your request.
Bad news is that I could NOT locate any Mikuni carb number on the body of the (Stroker) carb. The only reference I found was a metal stamping indicating 33 8012. The jets were 147.5 and 42.5. The top of the carb appears to be machined out of a solid piece of Aluminum...don't think it was from Mikuni, probably from Stroker. Its a tight fit so maybe the stock Mikuni top cover was too tall to fit.

Posted by: LVMarc---------------------

Hey thanks for trying, I use the info you gave me and see if I can press on.

LVMarc,

I did locate a Mikuni web site with numerous lincs to other Mikuni providers(www.mikuni.com). Most were for performance trucks, autos but there were a few for motorcycles.
Didn't find any that were Yamaha specific, most were for the Harley hogs.
There was one for the 2 stroke bikes but I didn't have time to investigate 4 stroke models.
I still think your best bet is to be persistent with Stroker. Tell em you've got $$$ to burn and would like to improve the TTR250 performance with their merchandise, but you're reluctant to drop the $$$ without an aftermarket carb. The carb really does improve the bikes performance...no hype!
BTW - I had the opportunity to ride the new Honda 450 (4 stroke) last weekend. What a bike...fast, light and very responsive (when compared to the TTR). I'll have to start saving for a new bike for Christmas. Either the Honda 450 or the Yamaha YZ250F are on my short list.

Give Thumper Racing a call at 1-800-259-5186 for carb info. These guys rock They have all sorts of mods for the TTR250 and this is the place we are going to get engine mods done at. Oh yeah, remember the yellow YZ450 tested in DirtBike mag. It was theres...

Posted by: midana86---------------------

Hey guys the carb is still available from stroker. I called monday. You can get jets through thumper racing if you just want to rejet your carb. Does anyone know how the yamaha aftermarket pipe , high comperssion piston ,and high flow air filter works. They say it gives 14% gain over syock. Just trying to find out as much as possible before spending about 2,000.
