XR vs. WR

The XR will chug to lower RPM without stalling which is great for newer riders, but way less power on the bottom than a wr.

I have read alot about the Xr being nostalgic and all that, but, yes thats right I said BUT, I think the XR is a one of a kind motorcyle. Hillclimbs, sand, single track, guess what it really performs anywhere. I ride a 1997 XR400, recently it has been modified to a 416 bore kit wit some tlc to sus and carb. I will be the first one to tell that my bike does as much and faster than 250 or 125 mounted riders, only to fall short in sus only in high flying situations. I agree with most of the XR community posted that the XR400 is one the most versitille weapons inthe woods and or sand. It may not fly as high as the new generation of fly weight aluminuinm frame T70,0007107 new metals out now, but, yes one more BUT, as all of my friends and family eat my roost, I cant help but thank those that bleed red blood 4 strokes at a time. enough said Lvz2ryd

Neither is a bad choice it depends on what you are looking for. I have a friend who used to race MX and he loves the XR and has bought 2 of them. I have ridden his and find it to be way too tame - I just bought a WR450 and find it to be perfect for what I was looking for. If possible it would be great to test ride each - but that is tough sometimes. It all depends on what you are looking for - both are great bikes and dependable. If you want to occasionally hit the MX track and ride more agressively off road than I would go with the WR which is still pretty tame until you make a few of the free mods.
