I just got the cylinder back from Eric's shop, and am beginning to get the bike back together. Next on the list is suspension work. My boy is big for 15 years old, 6 foot, 170 lbs., and the front forks bottom often with a clang loud enough to be heard even on the video tapes of practices. I have never been misled by the great folks here at DRN, so here is the question.. Do the forks go to MXTech, Factory Connection, or do I just get some Race Tech valves? I'm thinking heavier springs are in order, personally, given the racket the forks make on landing, but there are just so many choices when you visit all the web sites, and so many different approaches to suspension that it is hard to make a good choice. BTW, the budget for forks is around 300. Any suggestions?

Where is the airgap set to now-you can go up alot on the bladder fork without harshness, with stiffer springs/more oil and using mobile 1 ATF(7.5wt) you could gain good bottoming resistance.

Marcus,
The forks were serviced at the beginning of last year. I used the recommended Kayaba 01 fluid, and the recommended amount of 470 cc per leg. At the same time, I installed BRP upper and lower triple clamps, and Pro Taper bars (CR High bend). This bend is a little higher than the bend the make for KX's. Everything was pretty easy except pressing the stem out of the lower clamp! I am hoping that Jeremy can comment on this thread, as I'm thinking after reading others comments about his work, I think the forks will wind up at his shop.

While i dont want to take money out of jers pocket i think you should try the easy things 1st.Jer will not solicate work from his board so i dont think you will get a reply-e mail him if you want to ask him anything to do with MX tech.
If your forks are not harsh-(generally a valving problem) you can do lot of stuff to help bottoming.
I would definatly get stiffer spings 1st-jer website has a spring calcuator.
I would use Mobil1 ATF and set the airgap at 85mm.Try this and then worry about revalves if its still no good. One thing to consider is on the midvalve forks of modern bikes the shims tend to warp/set and this will cause bottoming-the 46mm KYB is very easy to service and jer has put up instructions on this board.A search should find it.

I currently have a 2001 KX 125 and weigh 170 with no gear. I am intermediate-Fast rider. I currently run my forks pretty much stock except I raised the oil level 10 mm and 2 additional clicks in on the compression adjuster from stock. I am seldom able to bottom my forks to the degree that you are stating. I am not going to give you any suggestions as far as what kind of oil to use. The weight of the oil plays a very minor part as compared to the oil level. I run 5 wt golden specro synthetic. I guess I would try raising the oil level before you make a major investment. I did have to go with the next hevier shock spring though.
