KDX250(93) - Do any KX Silencers fit ??

Hi all,
I am looking for any FMF (or equivelant) silencer which will fit Jon's 1993 KDX250. It already has a FMF Fatty installed and an old FMF silencer/Spark Arrester which is HUUUUGE, one of those which comes diagonally up the side then bends and goes horizontal along under the fender.
We are looking for improvement, sound is not a big issue as he lives way out in the boonies.

Did you get my email?

I guess not. The last note I had from you was about suspension, a couple of days ago.

Thanks for helping Flint figure out what fits and what doesn't. Hopefully once this beast is back together, it'll run stronger than it did before.
Now all I need is some studded tires

Hello - I was wondering if you could answer a couple questions for me. I am pondering purchasing a 91 KDX250 from a person here locally. I am in the market for a GOOD tight woods bike - I just sold my XR250R because it didnt have enough umph. I owned a 89 KDX200 a few years ago and found its power "torque actually" to be insufficient. I was on my way to purchase a xr400 when I found this KDX250.
How do the KDX250's stack up? Do they produce better pop then the new 220? Do they have good power delivery? Are they nimble (good in tight corners) or more motocross orientated? I noticed your question about the pipe - how are parts interchange with the KX of the same vintage? I dont see a lot of aftermarket stuff out there for the KDX but I do for the KX i.e. larger fuel tank - is all this stuff interchangable? Is the posted weight of 210 pounds correct?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

This is my take on it..
The KDX250 is a big bike, not a nimble one. It's powerful, but not a screamer. I would say if you want to ride it aggresively it'll take alot of skill. (That's my take on it). The KDX220's that I've tried dont' have nearly the grunt that my 250 does, but they are way more nimble. In that respect, I'd much rather give up some grunt for the flickablility. I can wheelie my 250 in any of the 5 gears for pretty much as long as I want without too much body english. It's when your in the tight stuff that you really notice the weight/size penalty of the 250.. it takes alot to keep it going where you want it to.
Aftermarket support directly for the 250 is virtually none. The 200/220 is way more widely supported.
If your gonna get a smoking deal on this 250, then go for it, you won't regret it.. But if your comparing this to a 200/220, I'd say get a low buck 200/220, and put the difference into carb/porting/pipe mods.
(again, this is my take on the bike, I love my 250, but I'm a nut on 2 wheels)

Hi Woodsy,
Jon is correct, the KDX250 is far less nimble but has more power, possibly the best used 250 is the RMX.
It really all depends on your budget. Of all the bikes I've ever ridden (including KDX 200 / 220 / 250 and many MXers and converted MXers) the very best BY FAR is the KTM 200. It is based on a 125 so is VERY light and manouverable. The power to weight ratio equals 250s. Thsi bike is lighter, more powerfull, faster and more fun to ride than any of the KDXs.
I am a member of the KTM 200 user group and many of the members progressed from 2 strokes onto XR400s and are now on KTM 200s and would never give up their KTM 200 for a XR400 !!
All this being said, their is a price - and it's purely a dollar value. KTMs are expensive and the 200 has only been around since 1998, therefore the cheapest used ones are probably around $3000. If you can afford one it is a great choice, as no money is needed for improvements. Mine is stock (other than FMF pipes) and I get the holeshot against 250 MXers !!
If money (or the thought of a European bike) is a problem, then see if you can get a KDX220 - these are definitely the next best and with a couple of easy mods are really peppy. Next option is the KDX 200 which are readily available at cheaper prices but handle very well in the woods (as you know). Your power issue with the KDX 200 is easily cured with simple, safe, cheap mods and plenty of support is available for the 200 and 220 (Unlike the KDX 250 which has much less support).
The 250 is an OK bike and lots of fun and again....definitly easily pepped up power wise - it's just a bit more of a lump in really tight stuff.
Here's my final assesment:
If you can afford an XR400, then look at the KTM 200 and KDX 220 first.
If money is the issue then look at the KDX 200 and KDX 250.
It is all a compromise.... you will get what you pay for.
I will be very very happy to discuss any of this in more detail if you wish. I am currently modifying Jon's KDX 250 and have had 2 KDX 200s myself, so I have OOODLES of detailed info.
