What chain for XR650R?

Hey,
I see that Honda strongly recommends NOT using the standard clip style master link for the XR650. They are saying you have to stake or peen the pins, a much more permanent, and possibly stronger way to keep the master link together. Has anybody had good luck, over a long period of time, with the standard clip style master link? Thanks in advance.

Snaggle, I haven't heard of anyone claiming to to use a non-staked join
on the xr. Assuming that you're highly addicted to the arm-wrenching torque like all xr650 owners are, you would be really tempting lady luck to
use a standard link. I was a novice to staking chains but a $55 kit
with instructions now enables me to do it.

cheers, Syd. ( U.K.)

Hey,
It's not so much that I want to avoid it. I just have never heard mention of it. I would guess that other big HP/torque bikes would too, but again, have never heard of it. Can you get any popular chain with a stakable master link or what? Just curious for the future.

I would buy a DID VM, it uses a masterlink and its bombproof. If you have a failure on the masterlink with the VM I would be surprised. I have 2+ seasons using it on my xr600 and it has been completely hassle free.
