Any Indiana riders here?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: motormichael---------------------

Looking to put a group of 4-8 riders together to trailride. We will be riding the usual places in IN. some but mostly riding in KY. I am 32 yrs. old on a DRZ400E and a B class rider. I have a truck and enclosed trailer. My son and I like difficult terrain and like to ride 50-100 miles per day. Lets go ride. E-mail me at PntNShoot22@aol.com

Posted by: Jewell---------------------

I usually ride a Haspin In, with a couple of my spode buddies. My bike is totally disassembled right now and stacked in a pile so my riding will have to wait untill my cash flow meets up with my ambition to rebuild everything. Hit me up in the spring and we'll difinatly hook up on the trails. Where in KY do you ride?

Posted by: Senior KX Rider---------------------

I am in Indiana but KY is a long haul for me.

Posted by: motormichael---------------------

In Kentucky we have been to Mountain Park in Clay City near Lexington.909 which is exit #49 off of I-75. S-Tree,Turkeyfoot and Nathan McClure Campgrounds and Sparta. We are going to Redbird Crest trail soon. E-mail me at PntNShoot22@aol.com for more info.

Posted by: Hondaman_06---------------------

Yeah i live in southern Indiana. Lexington it about 70miles from here but i highly doubt i'd be able to go on a ride with you guys thier because of the lack of tranportation i have. Maybe if you rode somewhere near here(here is 50miles west of lousiville and 65miles east of evansville)i could jion up with you. I've also herd that some of the old rock/limestone quarries are great to ride near evansville. I perosnally have never been thier but u can see my trails and paths from I-64.

Posted by: motormichael---------------------

Hey Senior KX we will be coming all the way up to Ligonier for one of the first Dist. 15 Harescrambles. Besides Kentucky is well worth the trip if you like to have many miles to ride on instead of acres.

Posted by: motormichael---------------------

The quarries you are talking about are probably the ones at Lynnville. It should be very close to you. There is a club that runs a National Harescramble there in October. See what you can find out on the place. I would like to ride there. How much trail do you have at your place? We may be able to arrange a ride . My son is 15 and rides a KX80.

Posted by: Jaybird---------------------

My boys (11 & 13) and I might be interested in doing Sparta or someplace like that this spring. We live in Clark Co. just north of Louisville. I plan on making at least one of the HS's in Bedford Ky this year.
There is some land on this side of the river that would be great riding if we can get all the owners to allow access. About 30-40 miles of shore and some very trecherous terrain between Charlestown and Madison IN. (locals call it the "Devils Backbone") I'll post info if we get the OK's.

I am a member of The Riders MC that puts on that race. I'll see you there. I have some family Southeast of Bowling Green so I get down that way a couple times a year.

Posted by: Wanabe---------------------

The place down near Evansville is Lynnville. It's exit 39 right off I-64. All the land down that way is old coal mines with many active ones. Much of the land down there looks like if you were to take a whoops section and make each one 100 feet tall. It can be interesting riding if you know were to go. There are lots of trails but they are kind of spread out in little sections. In between the hills is can stay real wet untill late spring early summer too.

Jaybird I would like to hear more about that place between Charelstown and Madison. It seems like there should be lots of good places to ried around there.

Posted by: motormichael---------------------

I would really like more info. about the riding area along the river if it works out. We will prob. stop at Sparta on the way to other destinations in the next two months. Mountain Park is not to terribly far from where you live. Have you been to Bigrock near Maysville,Ky.?If you are interested in doing some Harescrambles, The midsouth series is underway. We may hit the Feb. 3 race in Crofton,Ky. Their site is MSWS.org

Howboucha Indiana Off-Roaders!

I just stumbled on this site this evening. What a message board!
Anyway, I operate an Indiana motorcycle and OHV site, www.howboucha.com . The site supports two off-road motorcycle clubs, the Hoosier Trail Riders (HTR) and Discover Indiana Riding Trails (DIRT) We are active in the soon to be opened (2003) Red Bird OHV facility near Dugger, IN.

If you are looking to hook up with a great group of trail riders, go to www.Howboucha.com and click on the HTR section. Over the last 10 years, we have put on some great club rides on HTR members property (since there currently isn't a legal, non private, place to ride). We also put on some of the best harescramble races in District 15.

The schedule for 2002 has not been released, but there is one AMA race scheduled for the fall in Freeman, IN.

We will be putting on a Dual Sport event in May. If you are a dual sporter, send me a note and I will e-mail you the details when the time comes.

All for now. If you get a chance, check out my site. It is no where near as sweet as this one, but is a good source for Indiana enthusiasts.

Keep two wheeling,
Brendan Kearns

Motormicheal sorry for the late repsonse i couldn't find this thread again. Anyways there are around 10,000 acres around here to ride on has many trails but in some of the less dense areas can make your own trails. It would be nice to hook up with your soon and ride somwhere buti don't think my parents would go for that because u as a parent should know how it is with meeting people over the internet and all the stuff. When i get old and can drive maybe i could meet you down at Lynnville?? I'vce never been there and have been told by some friends that it was great for 4-wheelers and dirtbikes. I honestly can't wait to go ride thier sometime. I don't think my parents would take me though because of the cost fo transportation and not knowing anyone around thier that knows the trails.

Posted by: Hogwylde---------------------

I'm in the west central part of indiana. I hit Haspin acres now and they, Knobby hill just north of Indy, been up to the Badlands, over to Casey, IL, but usually go out to mom and dads 43 acre farm and blast around there. I'll be hitting some Dist 15 harescrambles....most of the ones at Stoney Lonesome....maybe some others around the state. Also gonna try and run the GNCC's at Sparta, KY and Crawfordsville, IN (practically in my back yard!!) I'll be easy to spot at any events.......no one else crazy enough to run a KX 500 in hare scrambles and big dirtrider.net decals on the front fender!!!

I'd love to hook up with some fellow hoosier DRN's for some trail riding sometime. I just need alittle heads up so i can arrange my schedule.

Posted by: Jaybird---------------------

I heard yesturday that Sparta (in Ky) is now closed. Maybe someone else knows more than I do about it.

I got a report from a couple of my buddies who ride wheelchairs (kwads) and they report that the Devils Backbone ride, from Charlestown to Madison has a hitch. Apparently the Indiana DNR has bought some of the land adjacent to the Ohio and it may be hard to get access. Due to the easment law in IN. (I think it's like 20 ft. from any navigible waterway is public access) the land that the DNR owns may be passable whether they like it or not.

I'll keep an eye on it.

Posted by: motormichael---------------------

I will look for you at the harescrambles Wylde, if I don't meet up with you sooner.I am on a DRZ400 usually with camo riding gear on. How tough is the 500 to muscle around in tight woods? I used to ride an XR630 but restarting the thing was wearing me out. I guess I just wimped out. Happy Birthday Jaybird. Hope they can still put the Devils Backbone thing together. I have not heard anything about Sparta being closed. I am planning to go to the Redbird Crest Trail in KY. by the end of Feb. I have not been to this one yet but have heard good things about it. Are either of you guys interested in going. right now it looks like there will be my 15yr. old son, 2 friends of mine, one of their sons and myself. It is a 58 mile loop trail that is supposed to take 6-8 hrs. to complete. We may make a stop by one of the other usual places while we are down there. If you guys are interested, there is a Midsouth harescramble this coming weekend in Crofton,KY. Also the new indoor MX track is supposed to open in Feb. in Martinsville,IN. Motormichael22@aol.com

Posted by: SPD---------------------

motormichael is that Redbird east of London Ky? When are you planning on going? I might be interested.

Well.........I seem to be able to do it ok. I'm 6'1" and 200 lbs too. And since this is my first dirtbike since my 79 KDX 400 in high school, it feels pretty damn easy to horse around compared to my 600 lb harley I've been riding. But then again, I'm sore as hell after a day of chasing a buddy of mine around on his KTM.
I'm not gonna have any free weekends till at least march, but keep me posted about that Devils Backbone run....that sounds too kewl. That new indoor MX track sounds cool.....but they will want a $20/year membership and $20/per 4 hour practice session from what I've gleaned from there web site. I"ll stick to knobby hill for $12 a day for now.
Anyone checked out the new ABATE off road riding area in lawrence county yet?? It's supposed to be 400 acres of trails and virgin territory. I know they are moving the BOOGIE from Beanblossom down to there this year.
I'll look fwd to seeing you guys around!!

Posted by: motormichael---------------------

The Redbird ride mostly depends on the weather in Feb. We may have to wait until early Mar. I was in that area last Feb. One day it was 45deg. with small patches of snow and the next day it was 65-70deg. Yes SPD, it is east of London,Ky. E-mail me if you are interested. Wylde, I have been to Lawrence County Offroad Park several times. I usually take the whole family there. My kids ran a harescramble there also. It has to be one of the nicest places we have to ride in Indiana. It is 380 acres, most of which is tight woods riding. It is hilly but there are no big climbs. I would say most of the trails are easy to moderate. They have a small mx layout and a flat track. It is a very nice place to spend the day.

Posted by: motormichael---------------------

Westerville is just a little farther from Cincinnati than Indy. We could meet just south of there along I-75 heading toward London. Go to www.r8web.com/boone/TRAILOHV.HTM to get trail maps and more info on the Daniel Boone Trail system.

Posted by: DC3PIC---------------------

For all who ride at Sparta, KY, it is now closed for good. Apparently the land owners sold it to an amusement park sometime around the middle of January. I found this out the hard way. At least it was only a 40 minute drive from home!

Posted by: Hogwylde---------------------

AAAHHHHH.......NUTZ!!!:think

anyone know if the Sparta GNCC is gonna be relocated, cancelled, or what??

Posted by: Rev---------------------

Would Be great to hook up with any Indiana riders. I have a kdx200 with all the mods. My 11 yrs. old has a ttr-125. Friends and Coz`s In Terra Haute all ride. All in all there is about 10 of us . The only problem is we are all new at riding and don`t want to hold up a bunch of Go Fasters. We have been throwing arounding the idea of hitting Land Between the Lakes In KY. for a three day weekend. Anybody been there? We been to haspin , Badlands , Knobbyhill. Willing to try anything once. About the indoor MX track in Martinsville, I heard the courts have the place shut down in mid -constuction. Something about not payig the bills to the builders. Hope its not true. By the way we live on the westside of Indy.If us Old people can get in shape we might try a Few Hare - Scrambles. Do they have a class for 40 and over, Balding, out of shape ,Fat class, if so I`m there.

Posted by: motormichael---------------------

I have considered LBL but every time I see pictures of the place I am disappointed. It looks like mostly wide muddy quad trails. This may not be the case at all but that is what I have seen. I think you will find better quality trails if you head to the eastern side of KY. E-mail me for more info. As for the harescrambles, they have plenty of classes for you to run. I run Heavy B but usually get passed by C riders. Just come out and run.

Yep... That would be the class I run in. A lot of them are faster than me but I still have my hair.

Posted by: motormichael---------------------

Your E-mail is not set up to receive so I will have to respond to your ques. here. The areas to ride in eastern Ky. are mostly around the town of London. Exit #49 off of I-75 is one. The others you can find on this web site. http://www.r8web.com/boone/rec.HTM
There is a private riding area near Clay City called Mountain Park Offroad.
www.mpoffroad.com
As far as racing the harescrambles goes, just show up at a district 15 event. You will join the AMA and dist.15 there. For a race schedule go to
www.ama-cycle.org/index.asp
click on AMA Sports and then local events. I think the first race is March 17

Posted by: Jimbo1---------------------

Hey guys,

I live in Lafayette, IN and I am looking for some good trails to ride and someone to ride them with. I have a 12 year old son that goes with me sometimes. If anyone is close and would like to make plans for a trip, email me at JILLnJIM@prodigy.net

Jimbo

Posted by: Wanabe---------------------

Hey Jimbo i'm at Purdue right now without a bike, so if you got one to let me borrow I'd be glad to go with you  . Next fall i'm going to bring my bike up and put it any a storage place though. I might try to get with you in the fall

Posted by: speedycrf---------------------

We ride 909 as often as we can. Otherwise we ride Haspin Acres - 1 hr. - 1 1/2 hrs. away for most of us. Rode Haspin about 1 mo. ago, way too muddy for our liking. I'm considering going to 909 later this afternoon or early tomorrow morn. Weather looks too good to pass up!! Haven't tried new CRF out down there yet!!

Posted by: motormichael---------------------

Anyone interested in trailriding in IN., with weekend trips to surrounding states. needs to contact me soon. I have 6 adults and 3-4of their teenage sons that have shown intrest in getting together with a fun average group to trailride. Lawrence County Offroad Park may be the spot for the first group gathering within the next two weeks. Hopefully the weather will be OK. E-mail me for more detailed info. and a list of the riders and their machines. Let me here your ideas. Thanks, Mike Montani PntNshoot22@aol.com

Posted by: trivial---------------------

I am over in southeast Henry county...close to New Castle. I am only about 40 min from Haspin Acres, though I have never been there. I would love to hook up with some other indiana riders...but a word of caution...I am SLOW. I am fairly new to the whole riding thing. As soon as I get a trailer and the suspension dialed in on my 650r...I am game.

Posted by: Wanabe---------------------

hey, motormichael I would like to meet up with you guys durring my spring break (March 9-16). I would be just me and maybe another guy(he had sold his bike and was borrowing a quad though at christmas though). Lawrence county would be good for me I've never been there and it's not to far. let me know.

$15 adults and $10 under 15
I will also be e-mailing each of you.
I know the weather looks bad now but the extended forecast shows a good warming and drying trend over the next week. March 17th will be our alternate date.

Posted by: JM669---------------------

Motormichael....Just found your post. Great to here of another Indiana rider. I live just North of Indy in Noblesville. I ride Yellow as well, RM250. Maybe we can hook up sometime. My son and I ride & race D15 every chance we get. I am wanting to try a Hare Scramble this year as I have not ever done one. I doubt I can make it on the 10th, but keep me in mind for future get togethers. Drop me an email...Jmueller@machinedrive.com

Posted by: motormichael---------------------

From the North

Go south on SR 37 past Bloomington.
Continue S. for 12 more miles.
37 will decend down to a stop light. You should see a sign for the park. There is a Citgo( I think ) gas station on the right.
Turn right or west and immediately hang a left just past the station.
Continue about 1.5 to 2 miles south and you will come to a T.
Turn right or west again and wind your way about 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile( past the entrance to a golf or hunting club on the right).
You will come to another park sign, turn left there.
Go about 1/2 mile to the T at the park.
Turn right on the gravel drive and follow it to check in.
You should have no trouble. Just follow the park signs from SR 37.

The park is almost 400 acres. The trails are easy to moderate unless it has rained a lot. Then it is tough. A lot of this place is still virgin. There is still a lot of grass around. They also have a little mx track and a small flat track. I love that thing. E-mail me if you have any questions or concerns.See Ya there.

Posted by: motormichael---------------------

Let me know if you plan on attending the ride. Thanks, Mike
PntNShoot22@aol.com

Posted by: Jaybird---------------------

Looks like we are go for riding Lawrence Co. the 16th.
It may rain a bit on Friday, but nice temps and sun for Sat.
Looks like we may have a good turnout...hope everyone in the area can make it over to ride! I'm bringing the grill in case we get famished.

I plan on arriving at the park at about 9ish.
