Hello everyone this is my first post consisdering that i just got my bike on the seventh. Anyways i was looking for tips on what to do before and right after my break in. As far as electrical connections bearings any must do mods and suspension tips. I weigh 195 in equipment and ride in south jersey mainly in enduro like trails. thank you for any help. Iknow i haven't done anything in 7 days but am still in a state of rapture every time i look at it.

Grease the shock linkage, they come dry from the dealer. Don't force the grease in or you will blow the seals.

I run my 01 kicker totally stock, well I did drop to a 13t countershaft sprocket.
Change the oil after 5 hours. other than that ride it.

I stiffened up the compression front and rear.

Good luck

Brian

I'm assuming you purchased the non-S model. I run my 01' kicker basically stock as well. Fly'nBrian says it well, but another thing you should check right away is the spokes. Mine were loose when I bought the bike. After break-in, remove the air box restrictor, and re-jet to a 48 pilot, 2.5 turns on the fuel screw, 155-160 main jet(assuming you keep stock exhaust), and raise the needle 1 notch.

The stock configuration is as follows:
45 pilot
2 turns on fuel screw(approx)
142 main jet
OBDXP needle on 4th position from top

1. Take the counter shaft sprocket cover off and throw it away! Mud will build up behind it and destroy the counter shaft seal.

2. Deburr the back of the shift lever so when you crash, it doesn't punch a hole in the case. If you have big feet (like me), get a 1" longer shift lever from Baja Designs.

3. Get a skid plate and radiator braces.

4. If you plan to rejet (you should!), remove the black breather box on the right side of the carb and replace it with a 3/8" T-fitting from an auto parts place. It will make rejetting MUCH easier.
