Shoei helmet..

I bought a new Shoei VFX-R helmet, size L.. My previous lid was a Shoei VFX-2 helmet, size L.
The VFX-R seems like it has a much smaller shell, is it just me?
It's tighter to put on, and feels almost like it's too small.. While my VFX-2 never felt like that when it was new.
I've tried on an XL and it fits pretty much perfect, but I've been told that it's better to go on the tight side than too loose. Will it break in to fit, or will it always be borderline too small?
FWIW, my size L VFX-2 feels awesome, but it's a few years old.. And the shell definitely seems like it's bigger.

I had a VFX-R for a year, and recently replaced it because it had its fair share of crashes on it. My new one(identical to the last) is very tight. The padding will break down and it will be looser. They are extremely nice helmet's though, just wash them all the time and wax em too.:D

Cam, it is all too common for people to buy helmets that are too big, based on how their "old" (sacked out) ones fit. If your in doubt, where it some night watching TV (preferably alone, and watching MX vids). If it doesn't give you a headache in the first hour, it's probably perfect.

Good point JTT. I often see people buying helmets that are comfy and loose, but they will not stay on in a crash. Mine squishes my cheeks and fits very snugly.

I'm glad to hear that.. I got a smoking deal on it! It's a new VFX-R, Albertyn TC-2 replica. I got it for $350 Cdn., about $215 US.

If you don't mind me asking did you buy it from a dealer or mail order? That is a tremendous deal, one that I'd like to take adavantage of if its still available.

Is the Shoei that much nicer than say HJC, Thor, or Answer? Just trying to legitimize the cost difference.

I got a brand spankin new VFX-r, shipped to my door, from a dealer with all papers for around 240 on ebay. List was close to 600!

I got mine from a fellow who lists Shoei helmets on ebay occasionally. Works out well, as he's only an hour away from me. I have been tempted to bid previously, but didn't have the money to bid. I shot him an email and asked how much I could buy one for, straight up. He emailed me with a price, I drove over and paid cash. No fuss, no muss.
