i have a 1990 kdx 200 fmf pipe, removed air box lid, when i was changing my throttle cable the needle broke. i was wondering if it would be ok to run it at the second grove from the bottom instead of the the third which is where it was. the needle broke on the top where the groves are.
btw its 32 degrees and i have no idea my elevation, i live in oswego ny its right on lake ontario.
also i ordered the new needle and it was $19 does that seem really steep to anyone else?

If you can buy any part for a dirt bike for under $100, you have done something !!

It will run a little richer in that clip position but you may need to richen it up with the lower temp. anyway. Regardless being a clip rich will not hurt anything.

As cold as it gets there you shouldn't have much problem moving richer one clip position, unless you were already running rich in those arctic conditions. I know I'm originally from Binghamton NY. Seriously if you damage anything it would be fouling a spark plug. Going lean on the other hand can toast your motor! Make sure that piece of needle didn't make it into your carb.
Stay warm,

If your buying anything from a dealer, expect to pay out the nose. But if you are buying aftermarket, hell ya that is steep. You can get sudco needles at 5 buck a piece with a single phone call. You just need to know what needle you need. Uh Oh...I think I just opened a can of worms here. :think

thanks for all the responses, i found the clip piece that broke, so im all set there i was jw if it would be ok to run that i didnt know if it would be rich or lean, the part wont come in for another two weeks and i wanted to ride. i wish i would have known about that, dealers sucks sometimes! oh well.

your needle broke because of vibration caused by a worn slide. (the part the needle rides in) new one is 65.00

no it broke because when i took the throttle cable screw thing out it was all gummed up and it caught and broke. thanks for the thought tho
