01 CR250 shock question

I am going to have to get my shock fixed because cold weather is making it leak without even being used! What causes it to leak in cold weather? I noticed the shock makes a little scraping noise (like sand almost) when i press the rear end a few inches. Is this because the seal is messed up? I have a question for Jer, you told me that the best type of seal to use is one with a "**** ring" I don't know what word was supposed to be in place, but thats what came up when you told me this before.:think

I had an almost immediate failure on my CR500AF in cold weather.
My theory is that the combination of cold weather and 50mm body causes the seal head to contract enough to squeeze the bushing and strip the teflon, or whatever it is, off it. These little pieces then get in the seal and cause it to leak.
The "sand" feeling could be either these little bits or air in the shock.
I replaced the bushing with a old style gold colored one and have had no further problem.

That was not a bad word.. LOL It was Q u a t r o or Q u a d ring.. The cold therory is the cause as far as I konw.. Also the lip type seal is more senstive in general, plus the bushing rides in a dry environment.. We copied the concept used by Ohlins when we made seal heads for the KYB and Showa units. The bsuhing is wet, and they use the seal mentioned above.
