Tension chain/Suspension performance - Help !

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: helio---------------------

I have setup my suspension last weekend and everything seems ok, but yesterday I felt my bike loose a bit of traction in rear and it seems to bounce a little also in similar track conditions.
The only thing that my mechanic had changed was the chain tension, my question is if the chain tension it is too tight how can it affects my suspension performance ?
Thanks for your help.

When the swingarm is parallel to the plane between the sprocket centers, the chain will be at it's tightest. (straight line from front center through swingarm to rear center.) If you have the swingarm in this position, there should still be slack chain available. If the chain is taught at that point, then the chain is too tight. When the chain is too tight in that position the shock will see this added restriction. Also this incorrect tightness can transfer damage to the sprockets, chain, and wheel bearings.
