Tuning with Fluid Weight

In trying to adapt my CRF to offroad (Cross Country) work I am trying to find the best suspension settings available with the stock setup. One question I have is whether lighter weight fork oil will have a significant, positive effect on the action for chop and roots? I’m going off the logic that this will allow quicker action, or will it allow the suspension to run to far into the travel? Mind you that I am 200lbs in street clothes and our races feature plenty of large whoops along with trail junk.

P.S. Jeremy, I’m assuming that the CRF’s stout springs are good for a 200# expert?

IMO not enough people try different weight oils, you can get 0wt(redline)2.5wt,5wt.7.5wt,10wt.Oil is cheap-forks/shocks needs fluid replacing after breaking in IMO anyway-why not try it and see, all it costs is the price of the oil vs a expensive revalve-you will learn about setting the clickers as well.
Years ago i had a 1990 KX250 as a play bike and i didnt want to spend money on it-i replaced the shock/fork oil with 5wt and it wasnt much better with fresh oil,so i tried 2.5wt and it went from stiff to rideable-not a huge change but enough to be happy for its intended purpose.
