any locals wanna ride? jboomer? paul?

Posted by: DAVE C---------------------

Where do you ride? I live in Richmond and we are quickly running out of places to ride.

Posted by: ride_red_15---------------------

just around the powerlines...theres not too many trails, but were making new ones, and were trying to find some old 'lost' trails ( from the golden days of 3 wheelers) that lead out to the potomac. unfortunately u have to be within riding distance ( on your bike) to ride here, because theres really no place to park thats legal

Posted by: DAVE C---------------------

Cool, just curious. We've recently lost the last remaining place to ride in Richmond that I know of (that is legal anyway). Plus, some of the MX tracks that are owned by private individuals are being shut down due to law suits. Have you ever ridden at that place off of I-95 near Fredericksburg? I've never been there but I might have to check it out.

Posted by: keith500r---------------------

Ive ridden there near fredericsburg, they built an airport recently so i dont know how much riding area is left. there used to be several miles of riding area but I dont know if its legal to ride there. i grew up in the area and could get there by bike, so i didnt have to worry about parking. even better area near 95 in stafford.. much larger and better trails but again i dont know about the legality of riding there.

The place you're talking about off 95 in Stafford has a bunch of houses being built in part of it too, don't know how long that's going to last but still alot of trails around there. Theres a lot just west of 95 where everyone parks I don't think the cops mind since it's pretty obvious and the HQ is straight down the road. I doubt that it's legal either but is accepted:D

Posted by: DAVE C---------------------

Accepted works for me. Is it usually crowded up there? I would hate to go and there be 50 people on a few miles of trails. Have you guys ever been to the tracks in South Hill? I was thinking about checking that out too. There really aren't too many places left to ride around here. Sunday I did the most illegal riding that I have ever done. Not too cool, made me real nervous. Thanks for the info! :D

Posted by: KXTodd---------------------

The couple times I've been there it's mostly 4 wheelers , crowded:think Not that bad, but it is a popular place.
I looked up South Hill and the only one I found is down by Kerr Reservoir, down there? That's a long trip! Theres a few other tracks closer to you than that like Lake Sugartree , check out http://www.vchss.org/vchss_flag_intro.htm seems like you've got more tracks down there than anywhere else in the state.

Posted by: DAVE C---------------------

Lake Sugartree ehhh? Is that near Charlottesville? I thought that I heard they closed it down. I'll have to check into that. The South Hill track would be a haul for you, but it is only about an hour from me. Also, my father has a house at lake Gaston and I spend a lot of time down there wakeboarding. Figured I could haul the bike along for some extra fun. Thanks for the heads up on Sugartree.

Posted by: ride_red_15---------------------

its normally pretty crowded, in widewater here we pass around 20 quads, and out on the place next to / in the median of 95 your lucky if you see less than 30 people, very few, emphasis on very few, bikes:mad:

Posted by: KXTodd---------------------

Heres the link, turns out they're farther than South Hill! For some reason I thought it was closer. http://www.lakesugartree.com/
Ride red, when are you going ? This weekend is supposed to be around 60, Hard to believe the weatherman though.

Posted by: ride_red_15---------------------

i dont know when im going really, id love to hit the trails near 95 in all their swampy, low land glory, especially after the rain, but i have really no way to get there, ( not old enough to drive) and i COULD get there by bike, but crossing Route 1 is suicide on the weekends

Posted by: KXTodd---------------------

Not a problem, i could throw it in the back of my truck if needed. I'd like to find that trail to the potomac too, me and JBoomer were pretty close I think, but it was getting late and the trail disappeared! Send me an email and let me know, sat. or sun. looks good to me.

Posted by: ride_red_15---------------------

how about you me and boomer hit it on sat.? u could park over there again, like u did b4 didnt u? i know where it is, but i dont risk riding it alone, because its long and fairly treacherous, or so i hear

Posted by: KXTodd---------------------

Sounds good, I'll check back closer to the weekend.

Posted by: ride_red_15---------------------

alright then

Posted by: keith500r---------------------

a friend of mine who lives in stafford, and has direct access to the trails by 95 in stafford just told me last week sometime cops closed that place, they were at all the entrances, and he told me there were actually cops on 4 wheelrs out there telling people to leave. sounds crazy but hes not the type of person who would make it up, so watch out if you are going there!

also I just got a cargo van that will hold 2-3 bikes easily, and I will be in stafford a lot more often now so we could find some other places to ride!

Posted by: ride_red_15---------------------

yeah their gettin like that around here, where we ride ( in widewater) weve got "escape trails" ...trails that no 4wheeler or inexperienced cop rider would even want to look at, so if we see a cop, good luck to them trying to chase us thru 2 feet of muck and mud

Posted by: KXTodd---------------------

Hey Red, check your PM:D
