Has anybody had a worse riding day than this??

I had a horrible ride today. I now know what it would be like to ride in hell. It started out great. It was 2:00 and I'd just changed my coolant, oil, and adjusted my chain. It was 60 degrees out, and the sun was shining bright. I called my friend (he's got a CR80), and he decided riding would be great. At 2:20 I arrived at his house, and we pushed his bike to my house. 2:40 we walked out through our neighbor's yard and onto the powerlines. We started riding down the powerlines. Fast forward 360 seconds and 1/4 mile. 3/4 of my CR's rear tire was buried. My friend's CR's bottom frame rails were covered. We spent an hour and a half pulling the 80 out of the mud, to a dryer spot ten feet away. We made it inch by inch by inch. Guess what...once we got it out, it wouldn't start. The mud was like quicksand. When we stood in it to try to pry the bike out, we sank in 9 inches. We were digging with our hands (did I mention this was the first ride in new gear). It sucked, literally. Off in the distance we saw two quads. I ran after them (1/2 mile) and they made it into the woods before I got to them. I carved the words 'help' and 'look' into the dirt and walked back. We worked on my bike for 45 minutes. My rear tire was pretty loose, so I tried wfo in 1st. I was smoking out of every orfice, and it scared me (I only have 45 mins on my top end). Luckily a guy smoking without a helmet on a quad came by. We lifted my rear tire out and I rode the quarter mile back to my house to get rope. Quad man started to pull my friend's cr80 (my friend was on it) with the rope...more luck and the rope got caught in my friend's rear brake. 10 minutes later we got back to my house and ripped the 80 apart. Removed the plug, sanded it, put the bike back together...didn't start. We took the bikes to the side yard and sprayed them down. 6:30 he went home.

It's all the quads fault. Bswift and I rode yesterday with quads around. We too had an iffy day at best. It's too dry here to get stuck though.

Hmmm, rekindled not too fond memories of a ride of mine about a year ago.
The DR was still new and I had a broken finger that was to be pinned and screwed the next week, still is "screwed", literally, and proverbially.
Anyway, decided to go for a little ride down by the river before I became incapacitated, everything was going along fine, until I came upon this kind of
hollow/ditch between two trees.
I noticed it was wet and muddy down there, with a not too big rut in the middle. Figured easy on the way down, blast out the other side, so I rolled down nice and easy. Then when I was about to gas it, it started sliding sideways, straight into the rut i was trying to avoid. Well, the "not too big" rut wasn't that long, but it was bloody bottomless, the dr's bashplate was grounded on both sides, and the wheels were just kind of hanging in this really sloppy black gloop. Thats when the smell hit me, you know that real bad rotten compost smell, I was wallowing in it.
The ground around the rut sloped towards the rut, I could barely stand up in the stuff it was that slippery.
I must of been at it for an hour or so, after getting one end of the bike outta the rut, I'd go to the other end of the bike to get that out, just to watch the freshly removed end slide back into the rut.
By now I too was covered head to toe in this oh so sweet smellin crap.
My ears pricked at the sound of a car, so off I go, running uphill to find this potential saviour. Turned out to be a bloke out for a drive, he stopped, I begged, he laughed, then thankfully he agreed to help,
Still took both of us 20 minutes of wrestling to get it out though, alone I think I had very little chance of success.
So yeah, I can appreciate your days effort for little return.
With your mates bike, maybe the stator got wet, or water got in somewhere else, make sure there's spark at the plug.

What's a bloke?

Yes, myself and anybody else whose day ends in the hospital, has had a worse day than that.

But not to take anything away, yours does sound pretty crappy.

Little Oxford dictionary states:
bloke n. sl. man, fellow.
I say:
Aussie colloquialism referring to human being of the male gender.

I think geting stuck like that is kind of fun. Its' humbling. Sometimes I surprize myself with the situations I get out of. A friend of mine rode his Kx500 in to quick sand at full speed. it took 3 guys 4hrs to get it out. When we got ti out we were spent, But we will never forget it. Good Times.

Worst ride for me... One week ago. I picked up my new 98 KX250 and was dieing to ride it. It was wet on my trail but I rode any ways. I come down from my jump and start the turn, wham! I low side it because of wet leaves, my head was ringing good after that one. About 3 minutes later I can get up and I pick up my bike and find that I bent the nice new Renthal bars!!! End Story.

Ah yes the fond memories of mud.Sometime in the early part of the year 1998, I was talking with a friend of mine about going down to Budd's Creek to watch the nationals.
My buddy the ever so die hard rider doesnt want to go because everytime he watches he only just feels lonely becasue he isn't the one riding. Well the beer induced brainless wonders we were figure " well we will go down and race the novice classes". The only real experience we had ever had with an actual motocross race that wasn't being aired on tv was that I saw a local race once .Didn't know the firstthing about anything involving any type of an actual sanctioend event and we head off to a national track to ride. booboo number one!
Now I am still trying to convince my buddy that I am only going to spectate. the conversation went something like this!

"I am only going to watch"<me>
" nah man race it is going to be great I tell you" <him>
"I haven't had a bike in two years let alone ride one " <me>
"use my bike " <him>
"ok you talked me into it"<me>
Now we are having a great ole time planning heading on down and we have lotsa stuff to prepare and get ready for our big "race"
Too this day I still can't figure how or why we where even thinking about how fun it would be too race against each other on an actual track!!
2 persons one bike . booboo number two
Ahhh yes the bike a prime example of an 88 rm 250 that shoudl have been in the scrap yard for the past five years!!! "Man we have a lot of things we have to do!!!" and we get about going and doing them. Tear down the bike and inspect and rebuild. Rebuild the crank, new 2nd and 3rd gears, new clutch basket and plates, all new bearings in the crankcase, new piston and rings . New suspension fluid, seals, bushings, bearings as needed , new brake pads ,cables , straighthandlebars and other parts as recquired to make me feel comfortable making sure this thing will last a weekend of us thrashing it . Countless hours painting the frame , knocking the dents out of the pipe , sanding the gouges outof the plastic and then polishing them up to almost a shine. We probablyhad more money in this thing than the original cost of it too begin with and enough hours for Skip Norfolk to build Jeremy 3 works bikes from scratch! boo boo number 3
Two bozo's who never raced before heading to a national track with 1 over priced brought back from the dead frankenstien of a bike!
Well he signs up for the 250 c class I am in vet c class. My practice is right after his . Cool I can watch him then just jump on the bike and do my practice.Ever see anybody pit for gas during practice? Yep he didnt leave me much! Loved the track awesome!!!! Except those are not big up hill and down hill jumps , they are small hillclimbs in the middle of a hillclimb and a cliff in the middle of a downhill!!!!!
Ok the race program is starting!!!! My class is one of the first . I lined up behind the super mini's and the expert 80's. While waiting for the ambulance to com back form lunch I guess , it starts to downpour I mean down pour perfectly grromed freshly disced tracked turning into soup!!!! Ambulance shows up goes and gets itself stuck in the middle of the first turn trying to get infield. This huge all wheel drive farm implement comes out to save the day hooks up the strap and buries itself! A real confidence booster I tell you!
Now here comes the big d9 cat bulldozer yanks them outlike nothing and cleans up the ruts and holes dug into the first turn. Waiting.... waiting a track official comes over and tells us that the races for the super minis and the 80's are postponed and or canceled. The lakes in the race track are deeper than their bikes.NICE! Waiting ... Waiting all this time the heavens unleashing what must have been an ocean on us Now I know why they have a porta potty and the starting line because the butterflies in my stomache have grown quite a bit. Track officials come up and say some of the parts of the track are closed theflagmen will direct you. HUH ? WHAT ? OH crap 30 second board is up. The gate drops, I give it everyting I thought I knew!!! For a brief moment in the middle of the first turn time stood still .
The feeling of the rush was so elating words just can't describe. Here I am maybe a couple of guys directly in front of me and the pack to the side or behind me." I gotta top ten start" I am screaming to myself. I soon find out why the video tape my buddies wife was taking shows a different story.
Some how some way when the gate dropped<it only dropped once it wasn't a doublegate race of two different classes> there was actually two waves of riders . The fast guys hitting the turn before I even realized it and then my wave. The sudden shock when I came around the first turn and seeing a dozen or so guys already buried in the mud at the bottom of the hill scared the heck outta me to actually stop. With a kind word from the guy behind me who happend to run into the back of my bike and dump it becasue I was stopped in the middle of the track Quickly gaining composure and assessing the carnage that lay out in front of me I start to proceed. Paddling to the point I am pushing the bike while sittting on it, in a clutch smoking , WFO shriek I pick and claw my way thru the hapless stuck saps who look similar to the creature from the black lagoon and head down the next straight into the next turn.
The audio from the video tape sounded something like this.
" hey he passed a guy ,.. go jim go,... hey look at him go,... ..... hey where did he go?"
Well when my buddy finally got around the track to see what was up with me I have my helmet off talking with the flag man . Saying things like "can you call me a tow truck"and" if your arm gets tired youwant me to take over" being it was my fault he was waving the damm thing.
The look of my buddy face was priceless though.Half worried I am hurt, he looks over at the bike. The frame engine sea ttank and bars standing straight proudly in the middle of therack and his jaw just dropping "Where the hell did the wheels go?!?!?!"

For what seemed like an eternity, we grew many a blister tying to dig this thing out with our hands ,rocking , pulling, and yanking. All this time the flag man laughing at us warning us " hey here comes some more than can actually ride" . To finally get the bike unstuck we literally had to lay it on it side grab the wheels and with a great heave and rol the bike over top of the seat tank and bars and let it crash on the other side. Took us a couple of rolls to finally get the bike off the track where we can scrape the crud outof the chain and sprockets to push it back the the truck

All in all one of th ebast days in my life
