Pingree also ran near the front for a few laps until a crash - only a week after his horrible crash at Phoenix.

And congratulations to Daniel Blair for making the main in both classes!

Pastrana had the fastest lap times but crashed in both his heat and the main.

BTW, Thain is out for the rest of the SX season after shoulder surgery, but he will be a serious threat outdoors.

What about Chad Reed, did he just fail to qualify?

RC's win pulls him into third in points, only 25 points away from 1st place at present time. The championship is very much in RC's reach with 11 races left. Even though Vuillemin has won two races, IMO he will throw at least one race away by finishing way outside the top 10. This will help RC in bringing the points spread back in his favor for the overall. The Rock will remain mostly consistant, but could also throw away a race too. I see the top three as RC, Larocco, Pastrana. MC may pull of a win, but IMO its time to flip him over, he is done as the reigning SX king. The next changing of the guard has happened. Let the discussion begin!

Sawblade, you've hit the nail on the head. What should be most interesting is the 125 class. J.S. reminds me a lot of a young Travis P. when he broke on the scene, and we've yet to see the east series to see who the contenders will be for the east / west showdown.
It's turning out to be a great season so far!

KTMboy, There are a lot of simulators between Pastrana and Stewart. Much brouhaha about both riders from the media. Both faster then a fly landing on a fresh pile of dung, etc. But there is a major difference IMO. Pastrana was and still is at times twist the throttle and see what happens, without thinking ahead. Stewart is some of the same, but looks to be more of a racers thinker. Stewart will be a contender in the 250 class faster then in other rider to come before him. I can't wait until the Nationals, were men are men, and boys prove themselves to become men!

Too many people discount DV, apart from last year( with injuries) he is one of the most consistant riders on the planet-have you seen his record at Bercy i think he has won every heat/semi/final in the last 2 years against MC/Chad reed and many other good riders.

Roncada has been pulling some of the fastest lap times out there all season, but has had a bit of bad luck & "incidents" with other riders. Specifically, he has had THE fastest lap times now in the last 2 events. It's only a matter of time before he wins a main.

I was disappointed in TP. If he could just settle down, I still think he's the fastest 250 rider out there. I also think he's the only one out there that can beat Carmichael in the long run. No doubt, he's the only one Carmichael's afraid of (Eckman's observation).

Bubba learned a big lesson last night. I think he's getting too cocky, thinking he can recover from any situation. His confidence is nice, but last night just showed he doesn't have the "aged" wisdom of riding a slick track like that.

Very disappointed in Lusk.

MC will be there soon.

Wow, what a season. This is great stuff.

Nephron is right. Roncada is faster than people think and he has been pulling the fastest lap times, but just hasn't been able to stay on 2 wheels or he gets a bad start. He is fast and I expected him to do well this year. I think he will get a few wins this year. He will be a threat in the years to come if he can be consistant.

I'm bummed that TP couldn't keep it on 2 wheels. I was starting to think he has finally settled down and is going to be a consistant threat. Maybe it was just a bad night for him though, but he needs to stop crashing and stay focused and smooth!

I also think MC is on his way back. He is getting better each week. I think his arm pump is basically gone, and now he just has to work on his speed and he is going to be back up where he belongs.

RC is back now, and if he gets a good start the only way he gets beat is if someone fast enough to beat him is right there with him from the start if you ask me. There are lots of guys that can beat him, but they can't let him have 5 laps out front while they are trying to catch up or he will juts pull away.

I think this will be one of the best supercross seasons in a long time!

If Travis is not riding well due to crashing, then what's that say about LaRocco? He's crashed at least 3 times that I know of this year. This is Pastrana's first year in the 250's, I wouldn't be so fast to judge him. He's riding WAY better each race.

I think some of the crashing by Larocco and Pastrana is due to the dirt there racing on, that stuff is like ice, when the come back to the midwest i think that will end. Greg

Yeah, unfortunately--everyone else will be going faster as well. Carmichael loves the "clay" tracks (wtf?) according to Eckman, I believe. When everybody gets out there on even "nonslick" ground, it's only going to make the controlled riders slower & the OOC riders faster--ie, JBS, TP & especially RC are going to clean house on those tracks unless DirtWurx (or whoever) can add a little more technical stuff. Then, I say TP has the advantage. How many looked at the Phoenix track & felt it looked like a small national? I sure did. I'm sure it was intentional, & I wouldn't doubt if the powers to be arrange it that way specifically to bring certain riders back into contention :think (ehhheeemmmm.....)??? So much for objectivity & evidence. :silly: Half the time they were out there, looked like a classic circle dirttrack race with those long, slick, flat sweepers. Sure, that's technical, but the tracks will change. I also think the more technical tracks are going to favor DV, & put him back up in the top 3 where he should stay. This will make it even more difficult for RC to catch him. I also think DV is much more consistent this year, than years past. He just looks solid & has total command of his bike. His style is amazing--very smooth, the way he moves all around the bike & is able to put his front wheel anywhere he wants to, anytime.

Some observations following a very neat race:

1) The most poetry-in-motion laps (also turns out the fastest) were turned in by Roncada and Pastrana.

2) TP must have attention lapses, or brain farts, or something. He goes down for no reason. He had nobody anywhere near him when he crashed in the heat race -- on what appeared to be a standard, even easy, turn.

3) MC is done. I say this because of the manner in which he lost. No bad luck, no bar banging, getting stuffed in corners. Quite the contrary -- he had a very comfortable lead, and was riding his race, and RC just tracked him down and passed him -- followed by four other riders in short order. Due to MC's age, this sure seems like a case of maybe-he's-too-old-to-get-fit-enough-again-to-compete-in-the-later-laps-with-the-younger-guys.

4) Bubba is very, very impressive.

5) Roncada has all sorts of skill.

6) Write down the terms of your bets with MXDad -- he's either getting or faking that old-timer memory thing. . . . . :D

Hey LT - maybe you had one too many beers! I can understand with TP's falling out of the race how you could have wanted to forget that other bet you made! Don't worry, I'll give you a chance to get it back any time you want.:confused:

Travis and Bubba are definitely the fastest riders on the track when they're on their bikes. Bubba looked a little like he was in a demolition derby after his first fall, he's got to settle down a little. The way he's taking guys out is going to put a target on his back. (of course, they have to catch him to hit him:scream: )

Don't count MC out yet. The championship is out of reach, but remember he only led 6 laps last week, and this week 14? He may win a main or two before the years over.

This has been some incredible racing this year. I'm just bummed that the SoCal races are over. I think they need 4 Anaheims next year! :confused:

I may have missed it, but I think KW just was slow. I don't recall him ever threatening in a heat race or the main. Of course, I may have missed a spill as I wasn't watching for him.

This one definitely sounded like another great race. This is shaping up to be a great title chase. RC closed in 5 more points on DV to get his lead to 25 points. RC is the best rider in the 250 class, but DV has a pretty good size lead and is riding so consistently right now. Roncada showed some real promise with his second place finish. It sounded like he may have been catching RC for a while, but RC could have been in cruise mode as well. MC led a bit longer this time. It appears as though he's got the starts down, now he needs to be able to run the pace the entire race. Nate Ramsey is adapting very well to the 250 class with another 5th place finish. I think Nate could win one before the end of the year.

In the 125 class it appears that Bubba's biggest title threat is himself. If he keeps going down, sooner or later he won't bounce right back up. As long as he can stay on two wheels he flys. Brock Sellards finally gets a win. He's been on the verge for so long. Great effort by both him and his teammate Billy Laninovich with a third. Billy went from not making the main to third in just a couple weeks. He's got alot of talent and should only get better. All in all its shaping up to be a great year of SX. Now for the East kickoff this weekend. Anyone want to place any bets?

You are right IdKTm. Bubba is his own worst enemy right now, but I think he will calm down and will win the championship. As soon he gets more experience and can stay on two wheels he will be unstopable.
