I went riding yesterday and I kept hearing a clicking noises from the shock. It clicks when it is almost fully compressed. Is it time to rebiuld my shock or is my linkage need grease. Hope you can help

is the chain slapping

Slapping or slipping! When the shock is almost fully compressed, the most drag on the drive system meaning that you could have missing teeth on the front sprocket. I would also check the lower shock linkage, you could have worn some of the bearings out. Thats the fun stuff, replace all of them if any are worn out.

I had the same problem and it was my swingarm and linkage berings. but a clicking noise could come from almost anything. just check ur berings

That is due to the amount of grease that the japs use in the bearings, which is hardly anything. When I checked mine, the bearings were locked up and that was causing my swingarm to go up very slow cuz there was nothing for it to roll on. I would recommend taking it apart no matter if that is waht is wrong or not. It is worth it!!!

had a squeeking coming from my shock. dismantled & greased the linkage a couple of times. rebuilt th shock (thank god, it needed it).
then discovered that my pipe (FMF Gnarly Rev) was rubbing against the shock spring. a stick and a little leverage, fixed the problem.
so before you dive into a bunch of complicated stuff..., check to make sure there isn't some tiny little clearance issue going on that can be solved with a stick and a little leverage.

Shocks generally don't click, I'd look at other things in the area.
Do you have a FMF pipe? maybe it's hitting the shock spring?
Put your bike on a MX stand and see if you have any play in the rear suspension, let it free hang and pick up on it, you should have no ....... air gap in the suspension.

For every good day of riding a bike should have about 4-6 hrs of maint.
Even more so on a linkage bike.
Removing and cleaning and greasing and tourqing etc etc.etc.
You shouldnt have to ask someone if your linkage needs to be greased
if you are doing the maint on your machine.

Well, I still have the stock pipe on, and it isn't rubbing. I have put it on my stand and there is a little bit of play, does that mean i have to grease the linkage?

You will probably need to replace some bearing in your linkage, check the bearing on the bottom of the shock, it is usually the first to go.

" I have put it on my stand and there is a little bit of play, does that mean I have to grease the linkage? "
No chances are good you'll need to replace the linkage bearings if you can feel movement, perhaps the swing arm bearings too. As others have mentioned these bearing need regular maintenance. To make matters worse Japanese motorcycle manufactures use grease very sparingly. Suspension linkage bearing on almost all bikes need to be greased before the bike is ever run.
Just greasing the bearing will likely stop the clicking but if the bearing are worn, and it sounds like they are, continuing to use the bike could result in damage to suspension linkage parts or worse yet injury to you. Its time to put the bike up on a stand and do some suspension maintenance.
Once everything is back together most people will grease their linkage bearing every 4 to 6 months of riding, more if you ride in alot or muddy conditions. Use a good quality waterproof grease.
