Motor cuts out

I am new to this group but I love all of the great advice!! I read through the "Hop Up" tech article and the carb modification article but I am still puzzled by my problem. Whenever I go from a cruise (1/4 throttle) immediately to a 3/4 or full throttle the bike completely cuts out, hard enough to lurch me forward a little. Then, after no more than a second or so, it kicks in and lunges me backwards. I cannot figure it out, any ideas?? My bike is a '92 KDX200. Thanks in advance!!

resembles a lean bog so far,
Reply with jet and needle sizes, air screw setting, elevation and temp, other mods, etc.

What GG said, it sounds like a lean bog. If we had some more info on your bike including jetting etc we could offer better advice.

I should have clarified some more with my original post. It is deep winter here and my bike is "hibernating." I was just trying to ge an idea for when I dig into here in a month and start prepping it for summer (new tires etc...). I don't know what the jetting is (sad, I know) but I believe it is stock though I am not the original owner. I think I understand your advice so far though, if it is jetted lean on the main jet then when I give it a lot of throttle (3/4 or more) then that is when the main jet begins working and it may be fuel starved or getting too much air, ??? I appreciate all of the advice and I apologize for asking a question without having all of the needed info to give out.

Sorry, I forgot to add some info that I should have. I do all of my riding at only a few hundred feet above sea level and the temps are usually in the 60's to low 80's. If it warms up to above 0 I will try and crack into the carb and see if I can get some info on it. Thanks again!!!

The temp info is important as well! drop the temps 60 deg and the jetting will be way lean.

For what it's worth, I would take the carb apart and clean all the jets and float bowl up.. Sounds like it's laquered up.. Laquer usually only affects the pilot jet.. If you have to fan the throttle at low RPM to get it to rev , or it bogs when snappping from low opening, it's probably the pilot jet.. This is especially true if the carb hasn't been cleaned and has sat for a while. Has this bike ever ran good without the bog?? I use CRC Lectra Clean.. Be sure to blow out all the little orifices's in the jets, and the carb passages.

Well first of all, has your bike ever ran good at the same temp as you rode it when this happened? If so I think i have your problem. It is either a clogged main(due to laquer) or it could be a crank seal on the flywheel side. I had a similar problem adn then one day it locked up so i sent it to jim to have the cases split and got it back with new seals and stuff. I odn't think the cases have to be split in order to replace this seal. The way to find out if this is your problem or not is to take of your ingition cover(the left cover when sitting on bike) adn see if there is oil in there, if so this is your problem. However it could be the carb so take that apart too. But i know this has to be a lean bog as you described it exactly liek what happened to me.

This has happened at various temps and pretty much anytime that I have ridden it since I bought it used. I don't know how long it sat before I bought it, could have been quite a while. I did clean the carb but I probably didn't do it as good as I should have. I will tear into it thoroughly and take it apart completely and look into everything on it!!
Thanks!!

Be sure to check the ignition cover, take it off and look for oil, my bet is that it is your crnak seal as it is an old bike, liek my 1993 KDX 250, and that is probably your problem, at least this is my assumption. This would be my best guess as you said you already took your carb apart and as long as the main is good, and the float level is fairly close, it shouldn't be the carb. So make sure to take that cover off before you do anything drastic, becuase this sounds exactly liek the problem that i had.
