I just got it all together today and rode it down the road. I am juiced. New graphics, cut down seat foam with gripper seat cover. New RB carb. New Weisco top end, New FMF TCII, MX Tech forks with midvalves and rebound adjustment -hard anodized shock body -race sag set! New blue deflectors on bark busters -all suspension greased-rebuilt. She is sweet and trick! Click on" website" link below to see some pictures of bike, forks and shock. I'm going out to celebrate tonight -it's been apart for 6 weeks!! Woo Hoo! I'll be riding soon.

Posted by: RTL---------------------

Looks Great! I look forward to that ride report! Thanks for the pics!

Posted by: markdxx---------------------

Very trick! A silly question though (never learn if you don't ask). How do you keep your fork boots from getting shredded. The last bike I had with fork boots was a Can-Am, and they lasted about 1-2 enduros. Usually less than 1 "trail ride". I just gave up and used swipers, never noticed any difference in action or seal life. I hope you are able to put all your upgrades to use with this great weather we are experiencing...enjoy!

Posted by: Tamean---------------------

Nice! She looks unreal, and must handle like a dream with that WER and all the suspension mods! I can't wait to hear the report. Six weeks without riding,:scream: ...Have Fun!

Posted by: ASLCM---------------------

Your bike looks sweet. Her is the stupid Q: Did you cut the seat foam youself on is it after market . need to do the same to my bike.

thanks ASLCM

Posted by: Fred T---------------------

I took it to an upholstry guy and he cut the foam, trimmed the sides narrower and put the new seat cover on for me for $25.00. I never was able to start the bike unless I had it on the kick stand or had a milk crate to stand and balance on. Now I can start it with out the kick stand on my driveway. I took 1 1/2 inches out of the seat...and it's still nice and soft.

Posted by: ASLCM---------------------

Fred T Can you ask him to do mine ? I will ship it to him UPS , Pre paid to ship back to me . let me know what he thinks about that. did he use your foam or his own ? Thanks ASLCM aslcm@knology.net

Or send me his Number and I will call him this week .

Posted by: Fred T---------------------

and look at upholstry shops and call them. I'll bet you can do it locally and save some bucks. Here is his phone number:

ive got another one for you fred.me and aj were both wondering what that piece of tubing welded to the frame just below right side number plate is for.it seems a little low,and in a awkward position to be a grab handle.but we cant think of anything else.:think

Posted by: Fred T---------------------

Kaw uses this frame for those Jap street legal bikes and my impression is that thing mst be used for something on those bikes, other wise the welding machine on the asembly line has a software glitch they couldn't solve so they thought it was cheaper to supply those little lugs for the frame than fix the problem. I hear that Saki is some real mean stuff in the wrong hands!!!:scream:

time to break out the hack saw

Fred are thoses FMF graphics for a KX250 that you are using or are they forthe KDX?

Those pieces of tubing are in the same location as the 89-94 200's, which are behind the number plates. I think they add support to the plates so they don't bend in to much, and also make a nice back breaker for when you need to lift your bike.

Posted by: Jim Crenca---------------------

I should have known that anybody that is so obsessed with KDX's would also be into high-end tube gear as well. Of course, a real KDX / tube nut / audiofile would be tweaking Dynaco equipment (like I've been doing). It does limit the time available for KDX stuffthough.

My suspensions going to Jeremy in a week; are the mid valves that bid a deal? I've got a limited bduget and have to juggle which projects for the spring.

Posted by: Fred T---------------------

From what I can tell on a VERY limited 1 mile test ride is that the forks are even more plush than std revalve. Very smooth. I think they will allow the rider to be more agressive while providing better traction.

Caught my tube audio system ey? Try some 300B's some time and you will NEVER listen to solid state again. Thats what I did with my time when I didn't ride for 17 years. Dynaco stereo 70 I assume? Ah those were the days, good amp but very colored. Nice midrange though.

I posted the URL and part number at BOB's in my previous post. They are in the 2002 catalogue, page 82. They are fitted to the KDX rad shrouds, but say kx on them. No big deal to me, I liked the look and the gripper seat and especially the $116.99 price for it all with free shipping at that time!

Hey Fred,

I'm curious. Did I see your Michigan License plate on the stock fender in your picture? I need to put my plate on, but it won't fit in that area under the light. How much bending and cuttting did you have to do. What type of nuts and bolts did you use to fasten it to the fender?

I used stainless short bolts and nyloc nuts with SS washers. I curled the bottom corners under the fender about a half inch or so. If you start it about 1/4 to 3/8 inches over the red lite cover it fits pretty good. I used the "Stock" plate holes on top and drilled a couple closer together for the bottom. I also saw a bud of mine use rivits and they looked real trick. He drilled all his own holes and used about 3 per side. You do have to remove the plate to change the light bulg though, I did that in my winter rebuild extraviganza.

If you need to shoot me your e-mail and I'll send your a photo. Fits pretty good.

Great bike, great looking stereo also. I should be picking up my new 220 this week. I'm also an audio enthusiast like yourself, however I have a ways to go to catch up with you in both the bike, and the stereo. What kind of amp and speakers are you using there?

Posted by: Fred T---------------------

amp is the VAC Renaissance 70/70 and speakers are Genesis model V. Don't ask the price! :scream:

www.vac-amps.com

genesis just went under 4 months ago.

Posted by: Perk---------------------

I can only imagine how that sounds. I don't have too much experience with tube amps. I'm currently running Onkyo and Polk, but will be upgrading to NHT's towers this spring. I think the VT 1.4's.
Should be picking up the bike this week. The barkbusters arrived today, I'm going to outfit the bike with all the protection first, then hopefully get a pipe and silencer next payday. What are you running with your modified carb as far as reeds? Do you have a ramvalve, or radvalve, or just the reeds?

Posted by: Fred T---------------------

Boyesen 607 power reeds. Radvalve is spotty at best as far as people being happy with them. Sage likes them, but Sage was a Factory Kaw Road race mechanic -I think he knows how to make a bike scream and can put it to use. He's got a 38 HP fire breathing KDX. He probably rebuilds his motor every 3 or 4 weeks just for fun. :scream:

Visit http://justkdx.dirtrider.net/ for new bike set up tips. Get it greased right away! May want to get some fork springs too, other wise you'll survive. Fun bike.

OOUCH!!! Its not that bad man, about 6 months for a piston (safety first) and a year on a crank. This time around I might pound it into the ground just to go 240cc???? I think a 240 with Nutec fuel and a plated 41mm carb might get up in the mid to high 40's, as the great Tim Taylor would say, AHH AHH AHH!!
