Right now I ride a 1991 Honda XR250R and I am going to sell my bike in the next couple of months, I was looking at getting a 2-stroke only after I sell the XR, I was thinking of the Kawasaki KDX220 and KTM 200EX/C, I think I will go with the KDX for money reasons, I am 16 and will have to pay for a car and insurance so I can't have a really high Dirt Bike payment. Will the KDX be like a tractor like my XR250R is? Will I have to slip the clutch any? How much more power will the 220 have over my XR? What FMF pipe do you recommend putting on the KDX220 when you want more power? Thanks Matt, If I think of anything else I will post it.

I have a kdx200 with the torque pipe. it makes it have alot of low end. the 220 would have enen more. i never have to use the clutch. it has enough low end not to have to use it. The kdx200/220 will have a good bit moe power then ur xr if u get a pipe. On a KDX220 get the rev pipe. It is smarter to get the kdx200 tho bucuase u can buy the pipe for it and still not pay as much for the kdx200 bike and pipe as a stock kdx220. and a kdx200 with a pipe is cheaper and alot faster then a stock 220.

Glad to see a kid doing the responsible thing and budgeting his money and earning a bike instead of having mom and dad buy it for him. Way to go!

This link will explain the differences between the KDX200 and the 220:

Thanks for the replies everyone, Thanks woods_rider1 for that comment, I appreciate my bike more since I paid for it, I want to earn my own way through life, not have my parents get me "EVERYTHING" like some people I know. Since the 220 has alot of bottom power and I need "ALL" I can get so the 220 might be the way to go,I know I will spend alittle more and then throw an FMF exhaust pipe on there, Are the KDX's easy to flick around in the tight trails? This is the thing that is concerning me the most, If I dump my XR and it stalls out before I can get up to pull in the clutch I have to wait 20 minutes "EVERYTIME BEFORE IT EVEN THINKS ABOUT STARTING"so how is the KDX200/220 after a dump? Do they start very easy or will it be like my XR? Thanks everyone, BRush that website really helped me,Thanks

Very easy. After your XR, you'll think you've died and gone to heaven. 2-3 kicks at most. Normal starts are one-kick affairs.

About all that you really need to do to the bike is fork springs for your weight, toss the airbox lid, jet it and if you can squeese it out get a FMF KG 30 or PC pipe for it. Boyesen power reeds #607 really help too. The KDX 220 will smoke a XR 250 IMHO and weighs a half ton less. 1-3 kicks and it fires up anytime even if you fall down and go boom. The o ring std chain is nice stuff too.
