Hey Boyz!

I'm new around here, I don't ride bike right now, but I am going to get back into the sport this summer I am a die hard snowmobiler and I bought my eight year old a XR50 last summer and he loves it. I want biking to be our hobbie and I'm looking to but a new bike. I currently ride a ZR800 Cat and have a long history of riding in my past like a RM80 in my teens and Quad runners. I am 31 years old weight 180lb, my dealer sells both Yamaha and Honda. I am a very agressive rider, my cat is a great mogal and jumping machine with gobbs of torque, I like to jump and hammer in the turns

I look forward to getting to know you boyz alittle better.

Thanks

Ice

Sounds like you followed the same route I took back into riding. My son got a bike last year and I soon had to follow. I first had an 01 CR250. Great bike, I've just always been a Yamaha man. Traded it for an 02 YZ250. The YZ hits and accelerates harder and is not as forgiving(can a 2-stroke be forgiving?). If you are non-competitive riding I think the CR would be an easier 2-stroke to ride. I'm thinking about trading my YZ 2-stroke for a YZ250F when the 03's come out.

I HAVE OWNED ALOT OF YZ'S AND CR'S CURRENTLY I HAVE A 01 CR250. I ALWAYS END UP ON A YZ AFTER TRYING A CR.

Hey dejackson; thanks for the imput! It must have been easier to make your choice before the four strokers came. I'm not sure if the 250 four stroker is going to be disapointing in the power category? I know it will be easier to putt around with the little guy's, but I wan't my cake and eat it too.

You'll be stoked, regardless which one you buy. I don't think there's as much difference as they print in the magazines, at least not for you to notice right now. Maybe in fork action, but I don't even know that from experience, never ridden a YZ250. Just get whichever one gives you the most butterflies.

I can say this- the Hondas are built better & will last longer & take a better thrashing, but even that can be moot with good maintenance.

The only thing I'd recommend is you look at kTms too. If you'll be riding offroad a lot, they come well set up for it. I'm sure there's a kTm dealer in TO.

BTW- I have family in Bramton & Weston. My dad's from Toronto. I'm a hockey nut, too. Spent a whole day in the hall of fame, could have spent another two. Loved the corned beef sandwiches from across the street (Shopse's?). He still plays. I play some, a little peewee & bantams when I was young, now adult leagues. Congrats on the gold. Your guys earned it. And welcome to DRN.

whichever one you get the best deal on....

I own an 01 yz250, wow, I love it. It has had suspension work, so I don't know how a stock one rides. But, did I say I loved it??

Both great bikes, but neither will be very good for going slow, which is what you'll be doing for a couple years when riding with your son! What about a nice comfy bike with kickstand?

I am in the same situation, my son has an 02 xr70 and after a 7 year layoff I could not take it anymore. Slapped 6 grand on a 02 CR250 and I love it. It is not a hard hitting bike it is pretty much as the critics say a surge engine plane & simple. The yz will hit harder and has better low end but the cr will take it in midrange. The cr is lighter and thier suspension has come along pretty good.
I am a CR guy(that's all I ever Raced) but I am honest and agree with the article in mx action the YZ does have the edge. they are different bikes but are both sweet rides It really is in what you are looking for. Both are very powerful machines( rockets on wheels) and I don't think you can make a bad choice with YZ or CR.
