I'm new around here, I don't ride bike right now, but I am going to get back into the sport this summer I am a diehard snowmobiler and I bought my eight year old a XR50 last summer and he loves it. I want biking to be our hobbie and I'm looking to buy a new bike. I currently ride a ZR800 Cat and have a long history of riding in my past like a RM80 in my teens and Quad runners. I am 31 years old weight 180lb, my dealer sells both Yamaha and Honda. I am a very agressive rider, my cat is a great mogal and jumping machine with gobbs of torque, I like to jump and hammer in the turns

I look forward to getting to know you boyz alittle better.

Thanks

Ice

Welcome fellow Canadian:D
You will like it around here, kick your shoes off.

As for the CR or YZ, hmm what color do you like better? It almost boils down to that!
BUT if you are going to go with a 2002 model I would personally get the YZ, I have heard of some probs with the 02 CR such as the airbox not sealing properly, and the R.C valve is kinda cooky. But that can all be worked around. The 2002YZ 250 was a good solid bike, with little flaws around it. It
's good for someone getting back into riding as well, the CR'S seem more experienced oriented due to top-end power.
Anyways I am sure people here can tell you a bit more.

Welcome aboard!!

Get the Yamaha.

Which do you like, Blue or Red?

Posted by: madmxracer---------------------

well i would go with the CR because they have been the best handling, most durable, and have the best ergonomics. Plus the fact that i have a 00' CR265 and they are awesome. they have lots of room especially if you are tall. The yami's usually have the strongest engine but it's more important to have a good handling bike that is comfortable also. You can always do a little engine work if you want more power. BTW, don't listen to people that tell you to get a bike that fits your favorite color, that's gay!!!

GOOD LUCK!

Not to sway your opinion because they are probably both good bikes but you might want to think about going to the 4 stroke. I keep hearing about 2 strokes being a thing of the past in a few years because of emmisions. Plus if your boy has a little XR you might need something more capable of going slow. I know my 2 stroke doesn't like it and after all, the YZ426 is pretty darn fast, and still able to lug around without all that clutch work.

Either way you are going to have gobs and gobs of fun. I started out on a little XR50 and look at me now>>>>>>

Welcome, you'll love DRN! I love my CR a lot but if you get one be sure to check the airbox seal. If you like handling light weight and smooth power you'll like the CR. If you want more oomph form the motor down low and a solid design get the Yammie, I have owned both brands and loved 'em. Jewell males a good point about the thumpers, I still miss my 500's power sometimes , basically the good news is it's hard to make a major mistake here, they are both sooo good! have fun and let us know what ya get.

IMO either would be a great choice. The problems serounding the CR, that have been discussed are very minor..I read the latest issue of Motocross a couple of days ago, they have a Mr. Fix it section on both bikes.....The YZ had more fix it problem than CR did. Theyre both great choices, just don't put TOO much weight into the things your hearing about Honda's. Theyre sweet machines!

Posted by: Icecube---------------------

Wow!!!

I'm really impressed with all your responses! I will think alittle harder about the two stroke v/s four. The CR450F is a sweet machine, costs alittle more and alittle heaver, but I think I can train the boyz better with it, I think?

If you boyz need Sled Info, don't hessitate!

Peace and keep the rubber side down.

Hey I have an 02 CR 250 and I love It, a word to the wise go ahead and by the Pro Seal Kit as soon as you by it and go ahead and do it before you ever ride it along with taking the bike down to almost the bare fram and grease all the bearings stearing head , swingarm ETC you'll be glad you did in the long run , as for my bike I'm sending the head off to have it ported it should wake It up . If I were you i would ride each bike if you could before you make your choice on what bike to by .Good luck on your purchase
