Drz Throttle Tube Question

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

BEFORE I START TO PANIC, HAS ANYONE INSTALLED BAR GUARDS/BARK BUSTERS ON THE DRZ. I AM USED TO OLDER BIKES THAT HAVE A THROTTLE TUBE THAT HAS NO END;THEREFORE NO CONTACT BETWEEN THROTTLE TUBE AND BARK BUSTER END.
HOW DO YOU INSTALL BAR GUARDS IF YOU MUST ATTACH ONE END WITH A SCREW THAT GOES INTO THE HANDLEBAR??

Go buy a new throttle tube. I put moose bark busters on my drz. I took the throttle tube off, ground the grip off then cut the end of the tube off. unless you can leave the grip on the handle bar and cut the end off w/a dremel cutting wheel, i think the easiest way to do it is go buy a new tube. It was a pain in the ass and a littl bit dangerous grinding the old grip off the tube!!

All I did was loosen the mounting bolt for the throttle, then slide the throttle off, just a touch, to give clearance at the end of the bar.
Then I used a hacksaw to remove the end of the tube, and cleaned it up with a file.
When you put it back together, just make sure there is adequate clearance between the grip/tube and the barkbuster.
Oh, its a bit hard using the hacksaw on the rubber grip, you might want to cut that first with a sharp knife.
Good luck.

Kelso-Take an Exacto knife and trim the end of your grip off, leaving the little "roll" around the outside edge (for looks). Then peel away the little disc-shaped piece of grip off the end of the throttle tube. Then loosen the throttle assy and slide it off the end of the bar almost all the way, and tighten it back down to hold it in place. Next, use a Dremmel or a rat-tail file to open up the end of the tube. It's easiest to just remove all ov the end of the tube. Next, slide the throttle assy onto the bar so that there is right at 1/8" of bar sticking out past the end of the throttle tube. Now, install the guards. BTW-When you ever go to remove that stock DRZ grip, let me tell ya, that bad boy is fused onto that tube. It takes a lot of work to remove it, so save it for as long as you can!

Lou, you are not kidding, i reckon removing the old throttle grip took longer than fitting the new grips AND the bark busters.
I was sure I was going to trash the tube if I put too much effort into it!
