protective gear:
On Saturday and friend and I were playing on a very large and single track hill. We were taking pictures of each other coming up the hill. For some stupid reason I stopped before the top.
Then all of a sudden I began to roll backwards. So I applied front brakes only of course and decided to roll back down the hill on my Raptor.
I knew that I was slightly going off course and I just kept thinking I hope I don't hit a tree. Then wammo! I hit a tree and all of a sudden I was thrown backwards off my Raptor and onto my head and shoulder!
Somehow the Raptor did not hit me. Thank God!
Now for everyone reading this, please wear your helmet, boot, gloves and chest protector! I won't ride without them and will definitely wear all this stuff in the future.
I'm going on Monday to see Orthopedic Dr for my knee. Somehow I twisted it bad. Luckly I was wearing a helmet! I remember hitting my head hard and was very thankful I was had my Shoei helmet on! There were rocks on the ground beside me.
Everyone be careful! I had climbed this hill hundred times before with no problems. It only takes a split second for something to happen!:scream:

I know a guy who always rides without a helmet! Crazy! I won't forget the wild ride for a long time.

Be sure to check your helmet over carefully. You may need to replace the helmet. Glad to hear that your mostly OK.
Where your gear and ride with a buddy!

Ha! The exact same thing happened to me! I never seriously hurt anything, but I got pretty bruised on my hip. I was wearing all of my stuff. If i had my chest protector then it would have saved me alot of pain...
I too was lucky because my rear tire hit a tree, and stayed there.
I stalled on the hill though

I just recently had the displeasure of helping a downed rider at our last race, he was coming down a very steep and rock downhill when the back end kicked sideway and pitched him off, he did a free fall chest first onto a boulder about the size of a washing machine. I can tell you without any question that if he had not been wearing a high end helmet and chest protector we would have been waiting for a coroner instead of life flight.
Always wear your gear

One of our younger riders (16) accidently got hung up in a barb wire fence on our WUDI ride at Chadwick and luckily he was wearing a chest protector that saved his body from many stitches. The bike came out fine with a couple of deep scratches on the fender and number plate. Unfortunatly, the worst injury for the rider was a broken right wrist.

I had in the past several hard get offs and wearing ALL my gear is why I still ride today.

wow that musta sucked, how 'bout this
it was our (me+brother)'s first ride. Ever. 20 mins into the ride i was already maxing the bike out.(2001TT-R125L, which wasn't too hard.) later on, me n him stopped to chat about how cool it was to ride, and have identical bikes to chalenge each other with.(we're very competitive) anyway,i took off, roosting all over the place, and leveled off in 4th gear, about 30-35 mph. then i crested a hill at that speed, only to find i have just launched myself into space with a six-foot-deep trench/ditch about twelve feet under me(6+12=18 feet) i jumped off the bike, only to bear hug a hardened, red clay outcropping. as i rolled off of it, miraculously with only a sprained ankle and dirt plastered on my face, i realized my brother and his 195+ pound machine was still hurtling towards me at impressive speed. as he came over the hill, he saw me laying there, and gunned the engine to try and clear me. good thing he did, or i would'v been nawing(sp?) the lugs off his tire, as my head was slightly back from my right sideplate, and his tire scuffed and cracked it. he ended up with a broken(not fractur, broken, or should i say powdered, since there was a white haze around a huge break in his bone.) we were wearing tennis shoes, jeans, a coat since it was 10:30 in the morning on Christmas,a full-faced helmet, and leather work gloves. i was down for about 2 weeks, he's still down after 3 months. :whiner: since then i now wear also work boots cuz i'm a ghetto white boy with no $$$ well, g2g, gotta finish my homework. laterz!!
