I know someone had to have made this event? Where is the write-up?

Saturday: Went through the recommended break-in procedure on the new KX and did a couple laps around the course (12 mile loop). I stalled it about 6 times on the first loop but only stalled it once on the second. This bike is definitely not a tractor like the KLX. Not even with the 13oz flywheel weight and larger front sprocket. If I didn’t race, I think I would hate this bike. However, the KX is very light and very easy to start in a variety of odd positions. Like on the side of a hill or knee deep in a mud hole. The course was also very rough and rocky and you can be certain that the supercross suspension on this thing beat the daylights out of me. The power delivery wasn’t very hard to get used to and I could control armpump fairly well, but the suspension………….When I get this thing dialed in, it’s going to rip.
So, I got a slow start and then pinned it to the first hard turn and passed lots of people. Then when I got to the first hill and saw about 100 bikes trying to get up it….I knew I’d be taking my time. I guess it took me about 20 minutes to get to the top. What a mess. At the first mudhole I got stuck, pulled the bike out and got stuck again. The second time I was pulling the bike out, a guy pulls right up behind me, while I’m stuck, and starts yelling. There are 4 open lines around me, people are going by, and this fool gets right behind me even though he could see that I was stuck. Well, I was tired and taking my time despite his discourteous shouts, and when I was ready, I did get out of his way…….With the throttle pinned wide open in a foot of mud.
The rest of the race was pretty uneventful with me learning the ins and outs of racing the 2-smoke. I liked the course layout but the track went to hell pretty quick. I didn’t vote for this track as last years track of the year and I won’t vote for it this year either, but I always have a good time when I come here.
I would have done better on my KLX but I just need some saddle time on the KX. I’ll get it figured out and dialed in by the time it needs new rings.
One more thing….”SLOW DOWN IN THE PITS!” I swear I’ve never seen so many idiots speeding around. If you are new to racing, read the rulebook and follow the rules.
See ya’ll in whooped out Bonita.

This track indeed was very tough season opener. My dad stopped by the shop yesterday and they told him three CRF's had been called about broken subframes. I myself, after just getting into a good rythm, was one of many to fall victim to a flat. Two laps and I was done, that track would be brutal on my back rim and pocketbook with anymore. This track had a little of everything, hills(with small sharp edged boulders), sand, mud, looong straights, tight woods. I didn't mind the track, but there was to much confusion on where to go when they tried to reroute. The promoter even said on the TCCRA forum there were problems areas that he didn't expect and none in the spots he expected. Add all this with the largest turn out ever for our races and you get mayhem. Also a bit disappointed that Lafferty didn't show up and Dick Burleson didn't race, but it was fun.

Dennis:

When did you decide to get a KX250? Man, this is news to me!
Congrats on the new ride. What are you going to do with the KLX?

Jeff,
I got it a week before Gilmer. I went to get some parts for the KLX and the dealer offered me a very nice trade-in on my KLX, without all the aftermarket stuff, and dropped several hundred off the price of the KX. So I traded it in a sold all the KLX aftermarket stuff to buy some things for the KX. Flywheel weight, gas tank, sprockets, bar mounts, and fluids. I was tired of having to do more and more to the KLX as I got faster so I decided to get something that I could grow on a little more without having to do so much. I didn't get the KDX because I felt like I would be in the same boat as I was with the KLX. It will take some getting used to. I've pretty much gotten used to the power delivery, but I need to experiment with gearing and suspension settings. It's VERY fast and when I get it dialed (without spending a fortune) it's gonna rip.
You gonna run any TCCRA races this year?
