I have no doubt there will be a crf250...Its just a question of when. I have a few connections in the industry (My dad's busniess partner's brother is a former honda factory 250 rider and is now a honda dirtbike test rider!! (last name johnkind...ever heard of him?)) Mabye I'll ask him if he can ask his bro.

2004. I'm on 2 waiting lists for it myself.

2004!!!? seriously? I heard that the 'Fonz was possibly riding it in the nationals this year, but I guess as a prototype. I was under the impression of 2003. Huh...I believe that the when the YZ450F comes out next year, the 250F would seem to get the same cosmetic changes, and I am sure it will shed some pounds. If Honda is waiting till 2004, they must want to make sure everything is perfect, maybe like how they did with the cr450f, for they proved that rushing to put something out 1/2 ass is not the way to go...
.
Hey firecracker, your gonna ditch the ktm for some redwings... Hows the acl, I remember in the past about your misfortune, I am 6 months post and have been riding on track and all good! Hope the same is going for you!

I think under AMA rules, the manufacturers have one year to race the bike before they are required to put it into production. It could be available a year from now but not likely.

By the time the CRF 250 comes out, the KTM will be ready to retire. I like my bike though so I may get another, or get a CR 125. I’m not particularly brand loyal—whatever does the job the best.

As for my knee, I started riding at 3 months postop, with the doc’s permission, and that was only a few weeks ago. I’ve been out twice (once motocross track, once on the trails/sand) and feel great. Much better than I expected to feel. Still sore afterwards but not very bad.

Are you sure about 2004? I had heard somewhere(can't remember where:mad: ) that they were going to unveil it at the SX opening round but they weren't ready so now they're going to run it at the final round and that it would be released as an '03 model.

Firecracker, I know you've got inside connections , so I'm sure you're right but I'm kinda bummed it won't be out for that long

he told me the bike will be there in october.

Each manufacturer has one year to run a "prototype" four stroke, but Honda has used that year with the 450 and Ryan Hughes. Unless the rules say that you can run one year for each displacement class, the CRF250F will have to be in production before it can be raced at the nationals or supercross.

Yamaha used their year with the YZF400 and Doug Henry, so the YZ250F had to be in production before it was raced at a supercross or national.

Rules are made to be changed though, and Honda has a lot of influence...

According to this article. It may be able to be released this year as an 03 model. Honda is definitely being very careful. http://www.motonews.org/news/crf250_update.htm

I wonder how credible that site is, that's where the KX400F came from is it not?

rumor mill says CR250F Nov-Dec 2002 as a 2003 model

Posted by: dmp437---------------------

I read it's being released as a 2004 in September 2003 due to developmental problems. I also read that Honda was instrumental in getting the 216 lb. 4 stroke weight limit shot down for racing, which was a good thing. So it looks like it's going to weigh less than 216 lbs.

This John you speak of. He wouldn't happen to have dark hair and a early 91ishCR250. He also wouldn't happen to live in MD ( Well he moved to Deleware awhile ago ) if your talking about this man I hate to tell you but he got in an accident about 3 months ago with me behind him. He jumped a double with the nose way too high and he found the brakes right when he hit the landing thus slapping the front end down very hard knocking him off into rocks the size of apples and what not. His spine was a little messed up from the accident and a kidney as well. So if I described the guy you know sorry buddy but he can't ride anymore :-(
