YZF throttle cable lube or not?

I am looking for info as to lube the throttle and return cables or not? I have been told leave them dry and just clean and lube the carb wheel and cables on the throttle tube. What do you guys do? How long do you go before replacing cables? It would stink to have one break on the face of a jump.

I would think you would get a whole lot of signals (unsmooth operation) that the cables are going bad before one actually breaks. I wouldn't lube them, they're supposed to be Teflon coated.
