Vegas SX

Who's going to Vegas for the SX and what hotel are you staying in
Let's get a D.R.N. party going

Posted by: the Eel---------------------

I got a ticket ... don't know where I'm staying though.

Posted by: JWW---------------------

I finally looked up some tickets last week. The only tickets I could find were way up in the stands far from the track.

Maybe next year

Posted by: endoquest---------------------

Let's start with what casino/hotel is closest to the track. Where is the track? Is it the MGM Grand? None of us are going to get tickets close to one another so we might as well stay in the same place and "fraternize", eh? Sometimes Vegas gets completely booked with conventions, boxing, etc. Research is in order here, bring it on.

Not a bad seat in the house

One of the smallest stadiums on circuit

Posted by: Darby---------------------

Vegas Supercross is at Sam Boyd Stadium-an out door event. The stadium is maybe 10-20 miles from the strip. We went in 2000 and took a cab from Excalibur Hotel to the stadium. I did not consider the fact that cabs are a dime a dozen if you are on the strip and few and far between at Sam Boyd Stadium when you and 30,000 other people need a ride back! :whiner:
I would go again in a heartbeat!

I know that there are at least 40 or so DRN'rs going. I think GSR probably has a fairly complete list. I am out of town and don't remember which hotel we are staying in but she has that info too. There is a big time fight that weekend (I think @ Mandalay Bay) and it seems that most hotels have jacked up their prices and are filling fast so you better move quickly. Bonehead/Endo - Send GoSpeedRacer a PM and she can fill you in with more info.

Now we're talkin'. Thanks Darby and TTR. I guess I better work on the flight thing too. I wonder if it's possible to line up one of those little bus things like the hotels use for shuttling. Hmmmm.

We have gone to the Vegas SX the last two years and here is some advice:

Dress for 110 degrees. The stadium and pit area do not offer ANY shade or air conditioning.

Rent a car. You can get a mid size car for about $70 for a 3-day weekend rate. Go in with some friends and it will be cheaper than a taxi and a whole lot more convenient. The drive takes about 15 minutes from the strip. Plus you can drive out to the Hoover Dam..it is a short 2-3 hour trip from Vegas!

We were able to walk up and buy tickets the day of the event and still had decent seats.

When you go to the pits...walk to the back and visit with some of the "not so famous" riders back there. They love to answer questions and seem so appreciative! You never know, you might be talking to the next young pastrana!

Keep your eyes out for Tom and Carey Hart. They live in Vegas and are easy to find in the pits. Tom is a great guy and builds all the local MX tracks in the vegas area. Tell 'em Russ and Danielle from Badlands said hi!

Stay downtown at Golden Nugget. Very affordable and clean. Better gambling odds too!

For those of you who don't have a hotel reservation yet, I would get on it. There is an Oscar Delahoya fight that weekend at the Mandalay bay and the hotels are filling up fast as well as jacking up their prices.

Bonehead is right, Sam Boyd is not that large and there really isn't a bad seat in the house.
I don't recall being hot when we went in 2000. Actually I put a light jacket on after the sun went down.

Looks like I'm not going after all, sorry folks. Too many things going on. Two failed transmissions. Five races in six weeks. Construction on my shop. Full tilt work schedule. Dissappointing corporate tax crap. Motojournalism. Preparations for the Elkton National Hare Scramble. Club maintenence, etc.blah,blah,blah. Calgon, take me away. :whiner:

Pffft! Wuss.

Sorry you won't be able to make it.
