2 bikes on a trailer: A good way??

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I usually have to put two bikes next to each other and I'm tired of trying to weave tie down straps through the bikes frames and tires. Is there an easier way to do this? I have seen some of the tire holders but I wonder how stable these would be. I have thought about welding some sort of contraption to hold the bikes in place by their frames but not sure if I want to go to that extreme.

Anybody have a solution or info on how good the tire holders work?

Joel

Did you get your PM?

Sounds like you can put a eye bolt on the floor of the trailer.

I got them on there but it takes forever to get the straps all on and everything situated. I have to turn each of the bikes handlebars the same way and they just don't appear as stable as I would like. I think I'll get one a few of those shoes to help stabilize them.

Joel

Thanks for the help.

I have the same problem. My trailer is a 4x8 and I run with 2 bikes on there. I need to have one tie down running a little farther out so it will hold the bikes up right. I have a wheel chock for each bike but it still feels like I need to extend the tie down farther out to hold them up so they don’t tip over. I have one bike facing one way and the other facing the other way to help and get the tie downs farther out. Any other ideas let us know.

Make sure you tie the bikes together also. It makes the whole trailer more stable.

I welded a 1 1/2 X 1 1/2 angle across the front of the trailer that extends wider than the trailer by a foot on each side. I filed the edges round so no one would get cut and that does the trick. Try it it works mint!

Hey you live on Long Island?? Does anyone still ride at Manorville, Exit 70 off the LIE?

I have not gone out to exit 70. I just got the bike and I am looking for places to go. Thanks for the idea.

WHOA!!!!! Go there first and see if the cops are still restricting riding out there. There is a KILLER track out there, BUT last time I was there 1990 or so, the cops were IMPOUNDING bikes. Watch out! It's sad, because it is a really cool track, I miss riding it.

I have been going to exit 56 on the LIE. the cops show up there but they just tell ya to go home. There are usually tons of bikes out there on the weekend.
