CA. Green sticker registration advice??

Here's the scenario, I bought an old non running 91 KX250 out of the classified ads a number of years ago for parts but the bike is now running. I made the terrible mistake of not registering it and
as the years have past I have also permantly misplaced the pink slip.I have no way of contacting the party that I originally purchased it from.
Has anyone ever been in this jam? If so any advice that may help get this bike back on the California motorcycle parks??

I think you will be able to sort this out, but you are going to have to make an appointment at a nearby DMV. Shouldn't have to bring in the bike, but bring in the VIN, engine # and the numbers from any expired registrations. Any receipt you got from the seller would be good, too. I would also prepare a 'statement of facts' summarizing all the information you have, and bring that in as well.
The DMV will probably charge you for replacing the lost title, a fee for the ownership transfer, sales tax on the last sales price, and some $ for the new registration. They may charge late fees for not notifying them of the sale earlier.
Provided the bike was never reported stolen, your problem is fixable after the DMV takes a bunch of your money and your time.

real simple in california (if you can believe that),go to dmv, tell them you have lost your pink slip,if it has been more then 3 years since the last registration they will make you sign a statement saying you are the rightfull owner. you will pay for the current green stickerand for replacing your pink.
you will recieve a new pinkslip with registration and sticker in the mail.
