it seems that when i first start out it takes a few minutes to clean up and run normal.ok i start it 1-2 kicks always i let it warm up for a few then when i go it takes once through the gears or 5 min or so ridin then runs super sweet .only happens on first start of the day.otherwise and all day the bike runs perfect set up and jetting, plug says right on???? should i look into something or stop feeding my neurosis ?

Well..... I'm probably wrong
But it might just be that when you first start you're blowing all the carbon out of the engine, and that's why it runs fine the rest of the day.....

But my advice on dirtbikes is worth what you payed for it

Ya, mine does the exact same thing. First 5 minutes of riding of the day, it runs really bad from mid range and up. I figure it is just the normal warm up thing.

I noticed it was "cold blooded" and I think it is due to it being water cooled. Before this bike the last one I owned was air cooled 1981 vintage KDX 175. The new water pumpers just take a little longer to get up to operating temperature I think and then they run real well and are so consistent.

thanks guys i was hopin it was something like that.it's a 99 200 a friend had a 96 that was the same way.

I think you're fine. Mine does the same thing. It is frustrating though. I used to have a '90 Aprilia trials bike (water cooled) and it did the same thing. Maybe FredT is right.

My '99 200 does it but my brother's '96 200 doesn't do it at all. Mine takes a really long time to warm up. Been wondering why there was so much difference between the two ever since I got it. Glad to hear it's not just me.

Posted by: kevinkdx---------------------

mine takes forever to warm up, also, but once it is warm it stays warm. Ride on.

Posted by: Perk---------------------

Yup. My 93 and my 02 both do the same thing. spit sputter spit sputter then whammo you're off.

Posted by: gooby---------------------

sounds exactly like what i got, after i picked up the bike and did the initial tear up the yard terrorize the neighbors, cleaned and adj the carb .i'm thrilled the thing just runs super,i just wasn't sure why i had the start out bobble.only happens first thing not at any other time all day long. big i couldn't be happier with my choice to get a kdx what a blast!!!!!

The reason this occurs is because your engine is cold, which affects the jetting.. In other words you jetted for an operating temp engine and when cold it is too lean.. That's why you have a choke circuit. After the engine is properly warmed up the carberation is right thus the bike runs better. Remember this: The c0older it is, the richer an engine needs to be jetted to run correctly.. This usually doesn't affect dirt bikes much, but vehicles such as sno-machines suffer from the rich lean thing.. ..
Take the time to properly warm up the engine. I have seen numerous cold seizures from guys wrapping the crap out of the bike while cold..
