2 Day Baja Ride

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hey gang; there was a post about my trail maintenance work/ride day on this board but I can’t seem to find it to say thanks. One of the DRN members showed up and helped that rides a Husky WR125, forgot the screen name he said he uses here. At any rate, I’m heading to Baja for a two-day ride April 13-14 and one or two of you that own a 4-stroke with 70 miles of range are welcome to ride with us. Put a backpack on with a change of clothes and some money stuffed somewhere, then ride 300+ miles in two days. Email me if interested…

No thanks required. It was a fun day and interesting to get some perspective from guys on the front lines of the Land Management wars.

Let me know when you do it again ... maybe I can get a few more riders to show. Also, we should kick around some ideas for that Gorman or Rowher Flat group ride we talked about.

As for Baja, I can only get about 60 miles out of a tank ... and besides, I'm not sure I can physically ride for 300 miles in just 2 days ! Have a blast and I'll talk to ya soon ..

Sounds like fun but I can't make it. I don't have a 4-stroke and only get about 45-50 miles on a tank. I think a wr250f might be in my future.

Mike - I think we may have met once at Gorman (not that you would remember me). I was out there on a group ride with John Gill and we came across a closed trail that you let us follow you on. If I remember correctly I think you were carrying a chainsaw to clear some trails.

If you ever need help with trail maintenance just put up a post and I'm more than willing to do my part as are many other DRNers. I would have made it out last weekend but I was at Clear Creek for an enduro.

Hey Mike,

Glad to see you over here! Enjoy your stuff on ORC!

You friends with Kacey Smith?

Thumbs you just gotta carry gas with you.... Remember I told you about the two guys carrying 2x 1 gal gas cans on their fanny pack belts? They were both on RM250's. They had a blast even though they only had 40-45 mile range.

Mike and Eel,

MTNGOAT and I were actually looking for you up in Big Bear. We started out at big pine and rode over to where we thought you were. We had a great ride even though we didn't meet up. About Baja. Where are you going? I've been to San Felipe and Rosarita riding before. I might be interested in streching the legs on my new WR250F.

Eric,

Yeah, lets see if we can get something going on that Gorman ride. I might be able to do it May 18th. As for Baja, you're a good rider and would do fine but that 125 might have a hard time with the long high-speed sections.

Thanks man!

You friends with Kacey Smith?

Yeah, I know her, but didn't make it to her last GPS event.

April 12-13th

My plan is to be in Baja Thursday night and ride Friday and Sat. We’ll probably start in Santo Tomas and ride to Mike’s or San Q and back. The trip to Mike’s has some new terrain I’d like to ride but San Q offers scenic beach riding.

You’ll need to go a maximum of 70 miles without fuel and run Pemex gas. I’ve never had a problem with gas in Mex.

Wear a backpack with a change of clothes and anything you need besides food to sustain life. Water is available alone the way but you might want to pack a 16oz bottle just in case.

Let me know if you want to come...

It sure has been a long time HLG! Kind of funny how us diehards seem to cross paths every now and then. My offer that we talked about on the phone years ago still stands! If you're ever in Cali let me know and we'll set up a ride. Don't worry about a bike, I'll find something for you to ride.

I used to travel alot for work...but it was mostly Detroilet and Chicago. I still have never been to California. If I do get out that way, I'll take you up on the riding. It is more likely that you could just swing by one time when you're out here. Any easterly trips planned?
