I would like to know more about the device called "AMP link". I remember seeing it as standard equipment in ATK bikes. I visited AMP:s website and found out that they sell it only for ATV:s. I wonder why they don't sell it for dirt bikes anymore ?
I ride a CR500 and I'd like to know, if the AMP link could eliminate the effect that the huge power has on rear suspension ? And how about the reliability of the link, does the rollers wear out quickly ?
Any information would be nice, thank You!

Dogger, I have the priveledge of telling I have had two model years of RM250's (1982 & 1990 ) with AMP links with the drive chain. The version
for your CR500 would require welding and possible rerouting of lower frame
tubes. They work well with the opertunity of dialing in your shock performance,( relieving the squatting associated with the engines torque output). However, I had problems with my prototype (1of2) as time went on
that eventually caused me to succombe to its removal. My Prototype 1990
RM250 version was a bolt-up installation. The 1982 RM250Z version was
stronger and reliable without frame alterations, but the unit needed to be
welded to the swingarm in front of the pivot. There you have it.

I have had an 87 KX250 that I had Horst Leitner, from ATK put an A-Trak on. I also had an ATK406. Both were the ABSOLUTE BOMB, as far as the effect the A-Trak had on the suspension. They, (ATK, Then AMP Research), moved from Tustin, CA. to Laguna Beach, CA.
What it does (did) is remove the "chain torque" that is created when you accellerate. . . making the bike squat down. Most people dont notice it, until you ride a bike that doenst have it. The bike gains a coupl e of inches in suspension when accelerating. . . which is WAY bitchen over whoops, and bumps. It allows you to run a stiffer spring, (if you want & I did) which translated into a MUCH MORE TRACTABLE bike!
I found your email by searching for an AMP Link for my 95CR500 dual sport.
I have spoken with Horst recently, and they no longer make them. I asked if he would make one. . . he wasnt interested.
want to look at something even cooler? , find the BOYESEN Bike. Evind Boyesen, also a GREAT inventor like Horst, created a bike that the traditional swingarm pivot, was removed and the entire rear suspension basically arced at the countershaft. Ideas WAY in beyond their time. . . look up Ribi Forks that Honda bought, because they own Showa. . . and didnt want them on the market. . .
anyways if you can find one. . . use it!
