CAN SOMEONE HELP ME WITH JETTING FOR 2002 200 EXC. I AM A SENIOR RIDER AND RIDE SINGLE TRAIL WITH ROCK. THANKS FRED

Posted by: agitt73---------------------

most people will say use a ddk needle in third clip
180 main 42 or 45 pilot

Posted by: MAICOFRED---------------------

THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY.FRED

Posted by: Layton---------------------

I use a CEK in mine (2000) as do many others. You may want to also give it a try.

Posted by: agitt73---------------------

layton what jetting do you run and what clip on the needle

Posted by: Layton---------------------

50 to 85 degrees:
180 main
CLK 3rd. clip
42 pilot
AS 1.5 out
#6 slide

You would have a 6.5 slide.
If the weather is colder or hotter I would adjust as needed.

Posted by: agitt73---------------------

layton did you mean cek or clk

Posted by: Layton---------------------

Oops!Typo:confused: I meant CEK.

Posted by: agitt73---------------------

THANKS FOR THE INFO!

dose the stock jet needle make the bikes run lean

Posted by: Layton---------------------

No, it makes the bike very rich around the 1/8 to 1/3 throttle range. Just where us normal people ride in the woods.

That is also why the bike has quite a hit as it comes up on the pipe. The engine is running rich and then cleans out by about half throttle. The straight taper needles keep the engine leaner on the bottom which is good.

I also tried a leaner slide with the stock needle, about a 7.5, but I now feel that changing the needle actually works better and as an added bonus, is a much cheaper mod.

How about the jetting on a 00 200 exc? I bought it used, and it seems to be set ok for temps from 40 degrees f. to the hotter temps. The bike is stock. All I know is that there is a 175 main jet in it now. I'm also a senior and ride woods singletrack. It's the Kehin PWK-38 AG carb. Are there any ideal carb set-ups? Or can I use some of the settings for the 02 exc suggested here? I guess I would like to compare them with what I have now, when I find out. I don't know what the altitude is here in SE Wis.

I also plan to be running this bike in the mountains this year, from 7000 ft to about 10,000 ft altitude. Any suggestions on jetting setup for those times? It will be summer temps, probably from 40 degrees F. to 80 degrees F. Thanks much. (As the last owner, I run Spectro synthetic blend at 50/1).

can someone help me as to what exactly the ddk needle is, i called the local shop to get this and he was like i have 3 needles w/ a "d" at the beginning and a "k" at the end, but i don't know exactly what u are talking about. so can someone help me out alittle, thanks

Posted by: Layton---------------------

geremacheks,
The settings I gave are from a 2000 200 EXC so they should get you in the ballpark. The only real difference that I know of between the 2000 and the 2002 is the 02 has a 6.5 slide where the 00 has a 6.0 slide.

As far as riding in the mountains I would try a 165 main and the next leaner needle than whatever is in your bike. Set it at the same clip position and see what happens. It only takes a few minutes to change any of this if you don’t hit it right the first time. That’s what I did last year in Colorado and only had to change the clip position the get it right.

Where do you ride at in Wisconsin?

el presidente,
The CEK, DDK needles are available from Sudco. www.sudco.com. If you order any be sure you order a range of needles as the price is only $5-$6 apiece but the shipping is around $7.00 per order.
Most local shops wont have a clue as to what you are talking about. If it doesn’t have a “name your brand of bike” part number they don’t know where to look.

Posted by: agitt73---------------------

i orderd the ddk and cek + 182 main
cost me $18.23 with shipping

Layton------Thanks for the info. Can you get at the needle without taking the carb off the bike? The right side of the bike looks kind of busy near the carb. So far I've only had the bowl off by tipping the carb sideways, and that's simple enough. But that was the left side of bike. You mentioned "it only takes minutes", great words for a fumbling mechanic like myself.

So you suggest just changing the main jet and the needle for the high altitude riding--no other jets? If this gets too simple, maybe I won't go back to four strokes--which I have rode for 30 years.

Where I ride in Wis: I live in the Lake Geneva area--there's a MX track 4 miles away which is open for practice weekly (with some limited trails)--last few years it has been rained out fiercely, though. My home is on five acres of nice surrounding oak ridges where I have super tight woods trails. I ride some private and public land near Necedah Wis. And also many places in northern Wi, but it's mostly stealth riding, because even on public-land, two- tracks here, you're not really welcome by many Counties. If you're from Ill, then Wis is your state park. Where do you ride here?

You are sure right about local dealers wanting a brand of bike for a part number. Standard answer: 'No, we don't have KTM parts." 'Yet there the parts are, right in the catalog on the counter!

Posted by: agitt73---------------------

you screw the cap off the top off of the carb and the needle is in the slide

also what is the differance between the ddk and cek needle

Posted by: fishhead---------------------

The cek has less taper and 1/2 clip more L1 length so it will run leaner than a ddk bottom to top.

It might be worthwhile to try a dck-3 and a cek at 4.5 or 5 and the honda r1369D-2 needle(cek-4.5) . Sudco sells shims to put under the clip. I found the cek-5(cck-3) has a lot of torque down low.

Posted by: el presidente---------------------

why should i order a range of needles, whouldn't the ddk be the only thing i need? i understand nothing about 2 strokes, i am coming off a 4 stroke, and u know how often they need jetted.

DDJ = R1468F
DDK = R1469F
CEJ = R1368J
CEK = R1369J
CEL = R1370J

el presidente,
You need to order a range of needles or several needles all at the same time is because of the shipping charge. One needle is the price of the needle ($6.00) plus $7.00 shipping or three needles $18.00 plus $7.00 shipping. If you order one needle today and then another later you will have $14.00 in shipping alone.
Also, as you can already see, there are lots of different ways to jet the 200 and all will probably perform better than stock. Every rider likes their bike to feel different so there is no one perfect set of jetting specs. Look at what others are suggesting and get several needles at the same time. That way you can compare them and see what works best for you.

Aggitt73 is correct when he says you just have to screw the top of the carb off. I don’t know how others do it but on the KTM I always remove the seat (2 bolts) and tank (3 bolts and the fuel line) to work on the carb. You might be able to get the top off the carb without doing that but it would be tight quarters to work in. It’s just quicker to remove the tank and seat.

Aggit73, we MIGHT be going to Polk Creek to ride on Sunday. Can’t say for sure yet. Depends on the amount of snow we get this weekend. It would be at least 11 or 12 before we get there. Do you ever ride there? I only go once in a while but some other guys wanted to go so we shall see.

Geremachek,
That was all I changed in my carb for riding in Colorado. I didn’t change the pilot because (a) it ran good and (b) you are coasting down hill a lot. I wanted to make sure it had plenty of fuel for lubrication.
I use to ride the Black River Falls area but of course that is gone now. I ride a lot in Missouri now, some Minnesota and some Michigan. Of course I still ride the Illinois and Iowa enduros etc.

Posted by: agitt73---------------------

yes i go to polk creek once in awhile sounds like it will be pretty darn
cold sunday to me i live about 9 miles through the gravel roads from
there MUNCH also wants to go there this week end you better

are these the identification numbers if i was to go to the local shop and try to get them?, i can't find them on the sudco website, and no one is responding to my e-mails to them, thanks

elpresidente,

Have a look at the conversion chart here:

http://www.carbparts.com/keihin/nee...s/oem_chart.gif

you will know exactly how the conversion between OEM and manufacturer part number work.

I suggest you contact Pablo at Sudco, he was a great help. I must add that I phoned though. sudco@sudco.com Mark your subject line with Attention: Pablo. I just quoted the DDK numbers to him and he knew what I was talking about.
