I've got a 01 wr250f which is great fun to ride but I'm thinking the 200exc might be better for racing enduro's in the east. What do y'all think?

Yep, the bike rips, is excellent quality, and is sooo light. Also starts in one kick! I'm getting one after looking at 200 E/XC, KDX, and even considered the GasGas 200.

I think you're right.
As much as I like the smooth power of the 4-stroke, I still think it's much harder to ride in tight eastern woods than a good 200 like the KTM or GasGas.
Most of the enduros are won or lost by mere minutes or even seconds. Stall a thumper and have to kick it more than once and your out of a decent finish.
Look at the top places at the recent Georgia National; I don't think there were any thumpers in there.

I've noticed that no matter what skill level, A,B, or C, the 200 class is almost always a little bit faster than the others. Open class and 4-stroke are usually slowest.

I went riding last weekend with a friend and he has a 02 250f and i have a 01 gg 200. We traded bikes for a little bit and i must say i loved the 250 f his bike ripped, he has the t4 exhaust and fc suspension. I had a blast riding it and luckily i didnt stall it. I watched him go through the whole ritual with starting the bike and it drove me nuts. The last thing i would want to do is have to worry about the starting routine in the middle of an enduro. It is not so much time factor as it is a fatigue factor. I know when i crash during a race and have to pick my bike up and give it just one kick it not only tires me but takes away my momentum. I must say though i really liked his bike outside of the starting routine the bike was nimble and just plain fun to ride plus it sounded awesome. If that bike had a e start button or started like the cr450 or ktm 400 i would seriously consider buying one in the future. One thing you have to remember is that 90% of enduros is the rider, im sure lafferty or hawkins could still kick ass on an old clapped out rmx. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. Just my .02
