Well I finally got the 300 out for more than a few minutes of break in time. This bike is really starting to impress me. Everything that my YZ400F wasn't. Runs a little ratty at 1/8 throttle or so. This could be due to the fact that the dealer setup for around 40-50F when I took delivery and now it is bumping past 70. Haven't even messed with the jetting yet. Might give it a little more "break in" time.
Realy like the suspension and the power delivery. I am able to torque it through the slow stuf and then let her rip when the open spaces appear. Very controllable. That hard seat may have to go although it has to be the most comfortable stand up riding position bike I have ever owned. It feels just right when I am standing.
My brother-in-law just bought a new XR400 that he was riding with me so it was interesting to get off the KTM right on to the XR. It was like getting off of an thourgh bred onto an old mare. The XR, however, is the perfect bike for him and his riding skill.
Anyway I will put a little more time on it and fiddle with the stock jets some and then perhaps start trying some of Stricks recommendations.

I love my 01 bike...this is my 2nd one...I went with the Ne3j yamaha needle and a 175 main, 45 pilot with the 6.5 slide...works great.

BREAK-IN: It will take 4-6 hrs. for the motor, you'll know believe me! Yes,the seat foam will also. 15-20hrs. -suspension You might move the needle clip one spot leaner(up) My 02' 300 is doing great on close to stk. jetting , I would'nt make any big changes until you put the time on the motor.
