WTB - kick start lever for a 1999 to 2001 YZ 250, either the whole assembly or just the arm. It must be in good condition. Once I find one I'll have a kick start lever off a pre 99 for sale. I expect it's off a 96 to 98 YZ250. I'd be happy to take some measurements.

Hey Dave, just wondering why you want an '01 kickstart lever? I'm not too fond of the one on my '01YZ. It seems too short because of the short stroke and the top of my foot hits the footpeg every kick, OUCH! :whiner: I can't even start it without my boots on.
Are you using it on your KDX? Just wondering?

Hi John,
No its not for my KDX its for my 99 YZ250. I picked up the bike used and the kick start lever on the bike now must be off a 98 or older YZ250. The kick start lever doesn’t contact the peg at the designed location when the bike is kicked through, it doesn’t tuck into the indent in the tank and every time I kick I can only utilise about 65% of the lever’s stroke or the inside of my boot is directed right into the outer teeth of the foot peg. the boots wont last long doing that.
Please tell me you 2001 lever isn’t doing the same thing and that this is normal. I’m assuming it’s the wrong lever, surely the design isn’ that bad.
I’ve looked at some other 99-01 YZ levers and they are appear to be different . . they fit into the slot in the tank etc.

I don't know about any other year, but that's sounds like mine(65% of the lever stroke and foot directed into the outer teeth of footpeg). But it DOES tuck into the indent of the tank. I'll post a pic of my bike showing the lever later this evening and you can compare.

Is your kickstarter perfectly straight or does it have a crook in it? '99 - '01 use the same part number but a '98 is one letter different and has a crook in it.

dave check out the bbr garage sale they have lots of misc parts and I know they had CR kickstarters for $20

Yeah, BBR makes an aftermarket kickstarter but I don't know if its any different than stock.

the BBR garage sale is all the parts they pull and don't use from new bikes going into the project bikes

Hey Dave, here is a pic of my bike showing the kickstarter. See if it's the same.

Dave are you sure it's not the oversize tank that is allowing the kickstarter to not sit right?

Thanks 2001yz250. Mine has a slight bend to it, sounds like it might be 1998ish.
That's great advice Oldguy I never thought of checking out BBR. I'm on it. Thanks a lot
CNDRider. Its not the over sized tank. It fits the same way with the stock tank as well.
Thanks all.
