CRF Throttle Gummed Up

We had a big time rainy race Sunday with very, very sticky mud and I had a problem with my throttle gumming up. After about twenty miles I noticed the pull was getting sort of stiff, but I thought it might of had to do with the humidity and engine vacuum with some weird 4 stroke trait. However after 30 miles I could not get more than a 1/4 throttle without putting some fight into it. Of course this happened at our fastest track and one of my favorites!
I have not torn it down yet to find where the mud/water I assume caused this built up, but I suspect its at the two piece throttle housing. Has anyone had this problem with maybe a Yamaha or KTM with the push/pull throttle? Any tips or ideas on preventing?

I recently put a set of Pro Tapers on my CRF and when I went to put the throttle back on I said I should clean this while I have it off. I have done a lot of riding since I got the bike and had never cleaned the throttle assembly. To my surprise (or not) it was very dirty within the housing, I cleaned it out with "Blast Off" an aresol gun cleaner or brake type cleaner it worked very well, I then lubed it lightly with some WD and put it back together, which was a task in itself but not too bad. When I put it back on I found that if I went too tight it would bind up. So I figured the bars were just a little smaller diameter than before (Renthals). So I wrapped one piece of black electrical tape around the bar where the throttle was to mount, this worked great and the throttle worked very smoothly all day Sunday at Bull Run.
Hope this helps, I wish they would have spent more time on that housing it was not very "user friendly" if you know what I mean.
