I am looking for a cheap bike stand solution. I have a kickstand on the bike but looking for a stand at home once in a while. Does anybody use something cheap other than an official bike stand? Something from a (Lowes, Home Depot, Menards)?? Something the right height about $10-15.

Walmart has these Rubbermaid step stools that are PERFECT, and cheap too! I think you can get one for eight bucks. Plus they are handy for getting up to wrench on your truck, reach higher shelves, etc.http://www.rubbermaid.com/Unbelieva...ucts/frames.asp

If you're just looking to hold your bike up, take a tie-down and hook it to your truck (mirror, bed, whatever) and hook the other end on your handlebars and give it a slight lean. This will keep your bike up and prevent any paint scratches on your rig.

Rooster13,
Thanks - that sounds perfect for what I need. I will check it out.
Thanks

Yeah, the Rubbermaid step is what I use.

Lowe's sells a step stool by "Cosco" (I think). They are only in white, and work prefect. I was worried that it would not be strong enough but I have been using it for 18 months, and no troubles. It was $10.

You can make a "lever" stand out of wood real cheaply.
Make a box like this
-------
|xxxx|
|xxxx| tall enough to get your bike off the ground and maybe 12"
|xxxx| wide
--------
Now add a lever arm of wood like this. The lever is about 30" long.
-------
|xxxx|
|xxxx|
|xxxx| ======
-------
Insert stand, tilted, under center of bike. Crank lever arm with your foot till stand is vertical. Now the bike, or at least one wheel, is off the ground. It works really well.
If I had a digital camera I'd post a photo. If you give me a fax # I'll fax a sketch to you of the one I made.

I just used an old cooler as it was the right height. Hey, it worked

we have used five-gallon buckets upside down, or if top is still on right side up, it might not be pretty, but most hardcore racers aren't into looking pretty but using what you got to get the job done.

You can buy the "plastic crate" the blue one for moto's...I think they are 20 bucks and you can put you wet riding gear in them for the ride home... air dryed.....

yeah, i use a 5 gallon bucket too, and i have a 1 inch thick board i bolted to the top of it so the plastic doesn't get worn out. The little step stool sounds like a good idea though.

yeah, I use a five gallon bucket. It works pretty good, and is free when you purchase 5 gallons of oil.
