Uwharrie NC....what's up with jeep people???

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: James---------------------

Took the XRs to Uwharrie on Saturday. Place is overrun with quads and jeeps. It wasn't bad overall but I noticed that a good number of the Jeep people and even some of the pokey quad guys weren't interested in letting us by. Had to ride in the trees to pull up next to one goofball in a jeep and ask him if he minded if we passed (after following him at a VERY SLOW pace for a LONG TIME)...he said sure go ahead - while still taking up the entire trail and not stopping...PRICK!

Can't figure it out as they don't go any faster than 5 mph (and I can't see how it is any fun for them anyway) and it wouldn't be much problem at all for them to pull to one side and let us by. My bike won't even go slow enough in first gear to follow them.

All these nearly getting run over situations almost made me forget about the idiot riding wheelies and spinning up rocks and dust in the parking lot on his 4 wheeler.

And then these goofs wonder why there is nowhere to ride?

my thoughts exactly about this place. full of red------s!!,, try brown mtn in morganton nc. you'll find alot of serious off roaders on 2 wheels here. i drive 5.5 hrs from gville to ride there 5-7 times a yr and definitely worth it.

James and MP, you guys come on down to Devils Ridge May 4th and 5th if you enjoy MX. There should be around 5 or 6 of us DRN'ers and would enjoy having more... even you James. j/k I know how you feel when it comes to overpopulation of 4 wheelers, last Sat. I would not even unload the bikes due to all the redneck lawnmower action.

Don't know about Brown Mountain. Read my ride report on it. http://dirtrider.net/forums3/showth...?threadid=42926

Posted by: James---------------------

We were at Brown Mountain this past weekend....GREAT PLACE...except for...you guessed it......4 wheelers.

Spent 15 minutes behind some guy going 5 mph and taking up the entire trail on 1a. Made several pass attempts to no avail due to all of the weaving he was doing. I am certain he couldn't hear me revving my engine to let him know I was back there because the stereo mounted on the front fender was so loud. I finally had to bump him to let him know I was there.

Later...IN THE PARKING LOT....we witnessed many stone throwing slider turns, a tug of war, and some shirtless, helmetless overall wearing bozo wheelied across the lot - came off the back - and just barely managed to get up and run down his 600lb utility quad before it hit the side of my truck (while we were sitting in the bed even).

Just two weeks ago, the back window in my truck was taken out in the parking lot at tnt. My guess is that these same guys (or others bred just like them) were responsible.

May 4th and 5th...keep me informed. I need to work on my jumps a bit more so you don't laugh too much but I might try and get there.

Thanks for the invite..it is especially meaningful coming from you...but for the life of me..I can't remember what we got all in a wad about.?! Did you ever post the update on your bike project?

Ya, come on James, I'm sure you'll like it. No quads, no ROCKS, no one riding on the same trail at the same time GOING THE WRONG WAY!! Trust me you'll like it.

Posted by: whyzee---------------------

James, click on the YZ "133" 96' pics link in my sig line for a view of the rebuild, as far as the 4th & 5th, Devils Ridge is all table tops and plateau jumps, very safe, and yes It would be very meaningfull to me to have your company.

Even more of a reason for me to be there. Sounds like my type of track!

Great, that sounds right up my alley

I found the directions and it seems to be quite a haul so maybe I'll make a weekend out of it. Hope to learn a thing or two from you guys.

No, Dave will just give us all a tutorial on how to get our bikes in as good a shape as his is! Wish my bike was as pretty and I haven't even seen his live yet!

Hey Mike,

Where do you do most of your riding? I have been frequenting TnT and The Honda track in waxhaw.

I have traditionally been more of a trail rider but I am slowly learing to ride the CR on the track. Have to admit to being much more comfortable jumping the ole XR400 over some of those doubles.

By the way, read your review of Brown Mountain and have to agree with much of it. You need a 4 stroke up there to really enjoy it. I ride the XR up there. My frame tubes are smashed, my exhaust header is dented, I have managed to trash 1 baja skidplate, completely destroyed the original tube engine guard, lost the stock footpegs, and none of this is from crashing. And the XR has at least 2" more ground clearance than the CR and stiff springs to boot. I added many, many deep gouges during my latest encounter with one of those rock formations on trail 1 (I did fall that time).

I know a lot of guys take the MX bikes up there but there is so much technical stuff to deal with and I don't care to crush my expansion chamber either (not to mention busting a radiator). We really like it up there but you can't be too attached to your bike because if you ride at any speed, something is going to get trashed.

Posted by: MikeT---------------------

I haven't been to the waxhaw track yet. I have a pass but havent used it yet. I went down and walked it, it lookd pretty nice though. I'm going riding somewhere this Saturday but not sure where. So far since I've moved here Ive been to TNT once , Andrews once, and Brown Mountain. Will you be riding on Saturday??

Posted by: James---------------------

We are thinking about trying this place called Mulberry trails in Lenoir. My brother is preferring something a bit more tame than Brown Mountain this weekend but we may end up there anyway if this other place really sucks.

They have a 1/8 mile dirt oval, a jump track surrounding the oval, and a 4-5 mile trail that I hear you can move pretty fast on.

If we do ride there, I suspect I'll have some steam left over for a dose of MX on Sunday.

You are welcome to join us on Saturday if you like or we can try to get together at one of the tracks on Sunday. I haven't been on teh CR in three weeks so I'll have to relearn how to ride it again.

Posted by: whyzee---------------------

"They have a 1/8 mile dirt oval", now that sounds like a rush, let me know what you guys plan, I'll see if I can get over your way.

Posted by: MikeT---------------------

I heard about that MUlberry place. You'll have to tell me how you like it. I need to go to either TNT, Andrews, or Waxhaw. I NEED a MX track!! We will ride soon enough, maybe the next weekend. Got to be on Saturday though.

Saturday at the Mulberry Place is a 99% definate for my brother and I...would be great to have someone else to slide around in the dirt with. I can't make any promises though as I haven't seen this place yet....travel at your own risk.

I will email you by Friday at the latest and let you know the FINAL plan.

I'm with Mike though...I am about ready for some MX.

I think I can save next Saturday for Andrews, TNT, or Waxhaw....let me know which you prefer Mike and we'll do it.

Posted by: whyzee---------------------

count me in for a round of MX also, not looking forward to trail trashing the YZ if you know what i mean

Posted by: dell30rb---------------------

I went to uwharrie Last year. The Xr preformed Great there. Some of the trails i rode were more suited to trials riders! There were way too many quaddies there, all with confederate flags hanging from their quads, and riding at the slow pace of 5 mph! I ran into alot of jeeps too. There was some bozo with a box van there who got stuck.

I rode at my first MX track 2 months ago. I can never go back to trails again! I absolutely Love it!

"No, Dave will just give us all a tutorial on how to get our bikes in as good a shape as his is! Wish my bike was as pretty and I haven't even seen his live yet! "

I saw dave at poole road (the same day when he wouldnt unload due to quads) His bike looks great with those DRN Fender stickers! Look forward to seeing you guys on the 4th/5th!

What's up. I live in sanford, NC which is about 1 Hr. from uwharrie and I will ride the 4.5 hr's to brn mt anytime. I love that place, the only thing is the 4wheelers suck. I like the steep trails that most people don't ride -I ride a cr250 so some places can be rough but that keeps the 4wheelers off of them.

I haven't checked with the wife yet, but I'd like to give Wahaw a try...

Posted by: James---------------------

Mike,

are you a morning or afternoon guy?

I'll email you with my number and stuff and we'll figure out the plan.

Hey Ken,

Are you the guy with longish hair that I was talking to a couple weeks back....you like trail 9 to trail 10 the best?? I think we ran into you at the big rocky area on 1b and followed you down to the 9 trailhead (or I'd swear that guys name was Ken too but I know he was on an 01)

Posted by: MikeT---------------------

Probably morning, that way I can get back and spend time with my boys in the afternoon. They are too little to ride yet. Send me your info and we can work out a day and time.

You're 3 days late, go and sign in and pass the word along, I would like to get a head count.

Posted by: MikeT---------------------

Well wouldn't ya know. I'm the slow guy again...

Posted by: James---------------------

Well it turns out that Mulberry trails was closed by the EPA about three weeks after it opened. The reason is supposedly the concern about dirt getting into the creek and making MUD (what a bunch of idiots). Rumor is that the owner is going to turn it into horse trails. Got the scoop from a neighbor who hates the B**** that turned the guy in to the EPA.

Anybody else think that the government is entirely out of control. Heaven forbid that some dirt would get into the creek.

Posted by: MikeT---------------------

MAN, I wanted to try that place!!!!! Mud? come on. :silly:
