I was looking through some pictures I had taken a while back and stumbled on some I had forgotten about. These have to be the sweetest rides I've seen. I've seen more extravagent, more expensive, and more modified, but these Really turn my crank. These were taken at last year's Super Chevy show in Memphis, TN. I hate to say it, but I would almost get out of dirtbiking so I could build one.

cool pic's. i had a 66 convertible, 327 with the 2 speed powerglide. it was a fun car.

Posted by: a454elk---------------------

Here we go with the "I had's". Couldn't bare to sell the elk, don't want to be in that catagory! Sorry that you don't have them anymore, great cars, no doubt.

Posted by: MassKDX---------------------

I wish my car was ready for the shows. I am still working on her. Maybe in a few more months

Here's another.

Posted by: CAL---------------------

Anyone notice anything "special" about the blue one?

Posted by: a454elk---------------------

No! But they are all nice. I'd like to see that blower poppin out of the hood of the elk, it'd be better than the B&S motor I have now!

Posted by: CAL---------------------

Come on. Someone has to notice something very important about the blue one! Do the intitials D. Y. mean anything?

Posted by: Danman---------------------

Is it a Yenko? I thought that they only did Camaros and Chevelles?

Posted by: CAL---------------------

Bingo! It is a Yenko Corvette. Very rare. And to top it off, he has customized it. That's the only customized Yenko I've ever heard of. It takes guts to customize a car that would be worth a couple hundred thousand $$ if it were all # matching.

For those of you who may not know...Don Yenko was the "John Lingenfelter" of the 60's.

Posted by: a454elk---------------------

Yenko, very nice. My neighbor has a 1969 Yenko Camaro. Sweet!

Posted by: wayneo426---------------------

Wow those pics really break my heart. That blue vette is one of the sweetest rides Ive ever seen. Good job Corey!

Posted by: Danman---------------------

Its a shame that its been customed. Don't get me wrong its nice (I would love to have it), but Yenko are restored if possibe. Maybe he could only get the body and not the engine. That would be a rare find indeed. I think that they did Novas also. I would get in some serious trouble with any of those cars.

Posted by: Gary B.---------------------

Yenko did Novas, Chevelles, Camaros, and Cosworth powered Vegas besides Corvettes! Right off the showroom floor! Man, those were the days! Now kids put those fartcan exhausts and a stereo system and they think they got some kind of musclecar.

Posted by: a454elk---------------------

Fartcan exhausts!!! LOL

Posted by: dave186---------------------

EEEEEEEEEEEEEWWWW CHEBBIES!!!! :scream: I wonder what those would look like if they had elks B&S?

Posted by: a454elk---------------------

My B&S will spank those wussy cars any day!!

Blue is beautiful, isn't it Wayne.

Posted by: Offroadr---------------------

Fartcan exhausts...

But really what choices do kids have today?

Back when I messed with cars, Detroit had many choices of cars to modify, now you have the Mustang.

What happened with the Cutlass, Camaro, Firebird, Charger, and on and on :whiner:

Posted by: 94ruck---------------------

Yeah, I remeber building small block chebbies with my buddies when we were under 16. now I open the hood of one of the crammed in 4 cylinder turbo efi , yadda, yadda, yadda and then close the hood and go over and play with my 74 vette. I can fit into the engine compartment of the vette with the engine in it!

Posted by: motometal---------------------

still plenty of 'maros and firebirds around. Mods are more expensive, tho.

Posted by: JuliusPleaser---------------------

I'd drive some Detroit iron if it looked like the second 'Vette. The first one is OK, too.

I wouldn't be caught dead in the third one. . .unless I was wearin' an Elvis costume.

Posted by: motometal---------------------

oh come on, sure it's tacky, but think of the boost man...the boost!

Posted by: Hucker---------------------

Gimme a 87 Grand National and a $1000 and I'll be DEEP into the 12's, real deep.

Posted by: MX145---------------------

OK - can you help me out here ?? I have a couple of pic's of my dad's vette that I want to post, but last time I tried to post a pic..... the only thing that showed up was the link.............. How do I post the pic ?? I'll try again and see what happens.

Posted by: a454elk---------------------

Hucker, you're dead on. My brother in law has one and it's unbelievable what he can do with it with little or no mods. Just adjusting the boost and tweaking a bit gets him into the 12's.

Posted by: Hucker---------------------

Elk: Most people have no idea what kind of power you can get out of the Grand National, or any Turbo Buick for that matter. Its like driving a V8 car with the gas milage of a V6. A really nice one can be had for about 10K CDN. Not a bad deal if you ask me. The $25 mod is perhaps one of the greatest modifications that has ever been done. It nets close to 100HP, unreal. Plus the 3.8 is a rock solid motor that will hold alot of boost without blowing up. Take it easy my American brotha!

Posted by: mackay---------------------

Hey where do ya weld on the big bad trailer hitch on them thar vettes....what kinda towing capacity do they have, just imagine plowing through 2 feet of snow and mud with one of those baby's EEEEEEHHHHHAAA!!!!

Posted by: 909---------------------

one of my old paintball buddy's has a grand national..... wowie i love that car

Posted by: Offroadr---------------------

The GN vs 5.0 events were cool!

Too bad those days are gone. One affordable muscle car left!

Posted by: a454elk---------------------

I drove my brother in laws national and he told me to stomp on it, so I did. I'm thinking, yeah, this feels like a V-6 then, BAMMMMM! The car pitches sideways and the boost meter spun around like an overwound clock! What the heck, no wonder other cars get the jump at the start then get blown by about 1/2 way down the track.

Posted by: CAL---------------------

Car Craft mag. used to (and still may) put on a competition called Real Street Eliminator. It's been a few years since I've had a subscription, but the last competition I saw had a Buick T-Type that ran 11's and got over 40 mpg !! If I can find the issue, I'll scan it and post it. Needless to say, it won the competition.

Posted by: JuliusPleaser---------------------

I drove a new stock GN back in '88, and I was really impressed. . . especially after I noticed that the AC was on.

Anybody remember this little turbo? 2.1 liter four cylinder with a single turbo set at 107 pounds of boost! :scream: This little car put out 750 BHP and won every single race of the '93 IMSA GTP season.

Posted by: grass-digger---------------------

i have a 96 pontiac bonneville ssei and it has a v6 supercharge its the fastest car i have been in in a while i have been in mustangs ,camaros, firebirds, and this car rocks its completly stock does close to 37 mpg preatty good

Posted by: grass-digger---------------------

oh the dealer said the car had 245hp stock

Posted by: CAL---------------------

Since we're talking about V6's and boost...Last year at our local riding area, someone had a very trick custom built Dune buggy with a supercharged 3.8L V6 (out of a Grand Prix GTP). I walked up to it because I noticed it had 6 headers coming off the engine and sounded wicked. I then noticed the Fuel Injection and thought WOW! I then panned over and noticed the roots type blower sitting on top and thought YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME! He had weight strapped to the front end, and a HUGE winch mounted on the front for more weight, and 32" wide paddles. I got to see one of the most awesome wheel standing roosts, I've ever seen. This was a buggy built for hillclimbs...we don't have any dunes or open areas around here. We saw him out in the woods later, giving people rides on a hillclimb. I was so amazed by it, I forgot to take any pictures. If I see him this year, I'm getting some pictures for sure.

Posted by: dave186---------------------

Now that were talking about V6s, lets not forget about the best of them all The Thunderbird SC.
http://www.supercoupeperformance.co...ller_Launch.jpg
If I remember right they have 240hp stock, the one in that picture obviously has a bit more, it ran 12.18 on that run but was .

Coy's car is equipped with the new 85mm Magnum Powers throttle body, high flow MP Inlet Plenum and the MP Fresh Air System. The engine is a specially prepared CMRE 3.8L Eaton supercharged V6. The car weighs well over 4000 lbs. and the suspension is still mostly stock. This car is not a specially prepared racing vehicle.
It has ran a 12.18 but its limited by the suspension and tires. Someday my bird will have an SC... someday.

Posted by: KawieKX125---------------------

Here is some fun, relatively cheap "iron"(its really fiberglass).

www.factoryfive.com

I am building one under a contract from my dad to sell and make a profit. Call it a fun investment. Needless to say, they are awesome. Take a look. I will post pics once the build gets underway.

Posted by: Kawierider---------------------

AAAAAAAAAAAMMMMEEEEEEEENNNNNN!!!!! offroadr...you hit the nail on the head, im looign ofr a project but no new cars are affordable enough. let alone have rear wheel drive or a v8
tim
I miss the good ole days i never had.

not only that but the interchangeability if you had a chevy six cylinder you where only motor mounts, radiator hoses and exhaust away from dropping in any smallblock. Add a bellhousing and front springs for a big block. Didn't matter truck impala chevelle camaro nova pick your body style and your engine and build. Everything was right in the local junkyard that you needed for the swap.

Posted by: Thump---------------------

Well my new neighbor backed out of his garage a SWEET 1970 Chevelle. Silver with Weld wheels, sounded good... then I heard the unmistakable whine of the blower. FULL on 454 with a massive blower. Turns out he used to pit crew for a T/F dragster team working on all the Keith Black Hemi's and such... SAWEET car he has. He has not yet put it on the Dyno but is guessing it to pull around 600-625 HP. On the street that is my definition of a muscle car. Now if only it was a 1969 Z28 and in my garage the world would be right.

Posted by: a454elk---------------------

Have patience my friend, time will come for you to be "on top"! Blower, oooooooaaaaaahhhhhhh, very nice, my dream for the elk.

Posted by: Smitty---------------------

Just ordered the parts to get my 66 Fairlane back on the road yesterday. I kinda parked it through college and got way into this Cross country deal. Now I room with a girl I've known since high school who told me she'd never rode in the damn thing and she thought I was bigtime back in highschool! Nothing like a beautiful girl to get your ass motivated huh? Been meaning to get it back together for a year and a half, case a beer says I'll have it running in 2 weeks now.

Posted by: Smitty---------------------

Did I mention that its red, with a 427 hood, Centerlines, 3" Flows pumping the music of a 420hp 351 Cleveland, a toploader 4 speed and 4.11's with a Detroit. Why did I wait so long?

So is this...

http://www.thecarsource.com/shelby/...tt/Gt500_1b.jpg

A gal at our highschool drove one everyday (w/427).

My personal high school ride was a midnight blue '67 fastback Mustang w/ a hot 289 (had Ford's LeMans racing cam among the other mods), 4 speed toploader and 3.50 Detroit Locker. Fun car!

Posted by: Danman---------------------

<little boy whinny voice on>

,but its still a Ford!

<little boy whinny voice off>

Really I like mustangs, but I have always just owned a chevy because they appealed to me. I would preferrer a GM, but I would not say that would not drive a ford. I have seen many that were nice, but could not get over the hump of owning one. I almost bought a 69 cougar once. It would have been my first car, but a buddy beat me to it with the money

Nobody has mentioned the car that Yenko first modded to claim his fame: The Corvair.

You guys can lust after your Yenkos and Vettes. Us Ford guys will have to be content with admiring the Cobra, a nice Boss or Cobra Jet, and the beautiful GT40. When I see a pic of the Yenko Corvair, I don't feel so bad about my side of the fence!

Posted by: YZandrew---------------------

Lets not forget the ultimate factory hot rods. The 1968 Hemi Darts and Barracudas. These things are still setting Super Stock records.
