Would like to thank Rohnman for his guided tour of the trails on his club land.I hoped I was able to provide some entertainment. The trails were good, technical trails with lots of rocks, mud and water. Better watch out for Mr. Owl next time!! Woodsrider, you make an excellent bridge!

Over the years there are a few memorable trail rides. Yesterday at Lake Desolation was one of those rides. The trails in that area have definitely seen an abundance of quad use. At least there were some good reroutes around the deeper mud holes. Rohnman definitely knows his way around that area and I want to thank him and knobbiethrower for inviting me along.

The ride started out with some good high-speed stuff with the usually northeast trail junk (square-edged rocks and roots). Less than a mile into our ride, knobbie became the first victim when his front end washed out in the mud. I had an excellent view of his crash and was laughing so hard I almost crashed myself. After a little trail-side surgery to remove what was left of his flag handguard (note to knobbie: buy some real bark busters) we continued on following Rohnman. We came to a creek crossing where the bridge looked untrustworthy. Rohnman blasted a cross the creek and I decided to follow. Unfortunately I should have paid more attention to where he actually crossed. My front wheel dropped into a deep hole and I could feel the back end coming over on top of me. I bailed over the bars and made a frantic grab for the kill switch before sucking in any water. Lucky for me knobbie was watching the whole scenario from behind and blasted across the creek in the shallow section. Some more time was lost as I pulled the plug and drained the carb. No water was found so I bolted everything back up, fired up the engine and continued on… with wet gloves.

We rode around some more hitting some more technical terrain. Eventually we hooked up with two of Rohnman’s buddies and decided to do a big loop (after going back to the truck so I could change my gloves). We had to connect some of the trail with pavement, but the trails we found were worth it. Late in the ride we came to a creek crossing that looked rather tricky. The entrance was fine, but the exit was littered with rocks and deadfall surrounded by mud. In true spodely fashion, knobbie dropped his 520SX right in the creek. After getting it fired back up he bulldogged it through the rocks. I was able to lug the GG through this stuff and pass knobbie. This hill was one nasty mofo. Mud, rocks and logs were literally everywhere. Keeping your momentum up and picking the right line was muy importante! Just when you think you’re at the top, you go around a right hand sweeper and discover a nice steep hill covered with rocks. Momentum was definitely the key to getting up this hill so stopping at the bottom to pick your line was not an option. Thanks to it’s awesome low-end, the GG once again saved my butt. Unfortunately knobbie on his 520SX didn’t fare as well. He’ll definitely enjoy his new (to him) GG300 a lot more in this type of terrain.

I rated this ride an 8.7 in my book. We covered over 20 miles without using the same trail. Encountered rocks, mud, water, hills, logs and wildlife (that owl coming straight for my head was a trip) without any major mechanical failures or injuries. The downsides were riding some pavement to get to the best trails and riding through quad ruts.

Souds like a fun ride if you like that kind of stuff You guys will like some of the trails at Paragon. I'm glad you'll be coming. If you're following me and I stop, you'll know it's something that you'd like just up ahead :scream:

I spent 5 hours pounding out laps at the MX track yesterday. It was worth it even if I can't barely move or walk today

Steve - The only thing you'll be spanking is your monkey!

I don't know Woody , I was riding CATRA last week and was getting pretty fast. I even stuffed Jib in a corner with a hell of a block pass after he was unable to pull a Mosses on me .

Nice post Woodsrider! I truly did spode out on a couple occasions, duly noted !Although having your brown eye wink at me on the way over the bars in the stream we were crossing has been branded in my memory. I look forward (without anymore spode moves) to doing more rides like we had this weekend.Being an MX'er for so many years, I can learn alot for the Woodsrider and Rohnman!

knobbie - About all you'll ever learn from me is how to crash with style or goon through the technical stuff.

Oh, and if dirtybkr tries to block pass me in the corner I'll just gas it and use his body for traction!

Hey. Thanks guys. I was hopeing you had fun. Next time I'll show you the rest. I know there are at least two more , tank deep, water crossings. I'll try to find them. And I'll work not crashing when I'm off the bike, too.
