The reason why Bubba crashed the last 2 times

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

In the lap 12 crash with Tedesco, Bubba bent his front brake disc and his wheel suffered damage. That was the cause of Bubba's last two crashes in the corners.

It's unfortunate because now the hundreds of thousands of people who saw the race live or on National TV think Bubba just forgot how to ride.

I think he may have dinged himself in the Tedesco tangle. He needed help getting up after the last crash after a track worker picked the bike up off of him.

The wheel damage does help explain the crash going into the back stretch right after he got up from taking out Tedesco. It was a slow speed flop at best. I thought that maybe I was sitting too close and had violated the Spodely Proximity rule and hexed him.

LOL tx! "Spodely Proximity". . .

Bubba needed help cuz he was under the bike on the downside of a berm. I've been trapped like that before, and there's not much you can do about it.

Is that when the girl passed you?

Posted by: SirThumper---------------------

I've been trapped like that as well, and had the whole second wave of riders unable to see me and no flagger to be seen. It was pretty ugly, several guys hit my bike with me under it and went flying, resulting in one guy having a broken shoulder. You feel pretty helpless and bad when you come out unscathed.

No, she smoked me out of the gate. Why don't you and Bobby take a breather from the woods and meet me at Warrior Wednesday night? It'll be fun. I promise. Plus, it's only fifteen American dollars to get in.

James Stewart update

After Saturday night's folly, in which 16-year-old rookie James Stewart crashed no less than four times in the 125 main event at the Dallas round of the 2002 AMA/EA Sports Supercross Series, Racer X decided to track the Kawasaki/Chevy Trucks factory rider down to see how he was doing.

"Oh, I'm fine," laughed Bubba, who was doing a photo shoot with Oakley's Anthony Paggio and Fox Racing field boss Scott Taylor. "I'll be good for Salt Lake City. Not hurt at all." Stewart lost his 10-point lead in the 125 West Region to Amsoil/Dr. Martens/Journeys/Factory Connection Honda rider Travis Preston, who manhandled the Dallas main event with a fine 15-lap ride. Stewart, meanwhile, couldn't stop falling down. But there was a reason, according to James, for crashes two, three and four, which came in three consecutive corners: "Tell David Bailey I didn't have any brakes!" joked Stewart, referring to the ABC and ESPN2 commentator. "I bent my front brake disc the first time I crashed over the triples, and then the back when I couldn't stop and I hit Ivan Tedesco in that corner." For Stewart to become the youngest 125 SX champion ever, he must now win Salt Lake City and hope for Preston to, well, have a bad night.

yeah i saw that.. i was bummed he was right by me too

im glad he's ok and ready for salt lake....that little guy can ride and i really enjoy watching him race....i wish him the best!

Here's something I find odd. Travis had a similar problem (aka bent rotor) and had to drop out of a race. Bubba had a bent rotor but was able to continue and even pull his helmet off while riding one handed and then continue to cruise around one handed Sure I guess there could be a difference in how bent but I just found it odd that he didn't seem to have any problems after the race. Just one of those things that makes ya' go hmmmmm.

If I remember correctly from watching ESPN2 (it was only yesterday!), when he was upside down in that berm, it looked like the right shroud was caught under his chest protector. He was trying to push the bike up the berm but it was snagged under the CP, with all the weight of the bike holding the shroud in there. That's what I think I saw, anyway!

And for the record, I didn't think his "Tango with Tadesco" looked all that bad. Looked like a block pass that went awry when he slid out.

Posted by: HiG4s---------------------

I watched it yeaster also and my thoughts when I saw it was that it's not a BLOCK pass unless you first PASS then BLOCK to retain your position. He should have stayed inside and waited for the next corner. He had plenty of speed and would have easily got by in the next corner or two. Not only did he take himself out of the lead, but almost knocked Tedesco out of third. He needs to calm down.

Posted by: SirThumper---------------------

Kind of like Travis's first year I think. He was just trying to make to much happen, to soon. There is no question as to his speed, he just needs the experience to go with it.

It looked to me like Bubba was about a half bike length in front of Tedesco when he slid out? Maybe it was the camera angle, etc, but it looked like he had it to me. Either way, it makes for some exciting racing!

Did you make it out to Warrior this past Wed night? Sorry that we couldn't join you. My bike was over at Bobby's house where it's been since LL. We're racing an Enduro in Gulfport Miss. this weekend. I mentioned going to the MX track to Bobby, and he said that he'd like to go to Mill Creek sometime. So, we'll probably join you out there some time.

Later,

I couln't wrap up work until 6:30 last week, so I didn't go. I'm going to try to ride tomorrow, if the track isn't soup.

Posted by: Timr---------------------

Bobby and Jimbo are riding tomorrow out at a private club property in Pell City. You wouldn't like it to much though, it's tighter than Clanton.

BTW, I went by Alabama Motorsports. Cool place. Good deals compaired to the other local shops. Thanks for the tip.
