jetting woes KLX

I'm trying to iron out the buggs in my 36 Mikuni jetting. I've got a major hesitation off idle (it'll shut the bike off). If I rail the throttle it won't rev...once i roll the throttle smooth its fine. I leaned the main out to 125 and put the 17.5 (richer) pilot in on a rocomended. Nothing made the hesitation change (better or worse) but the leaner main bumped the power up a lot. Any ideas?

Does the bike smoke as you roll on the throttle? Have you checked the plug for color to see if it's too rich? Usually a major bog when rolling on the throttle is a from too lean on the top, not rich.Usually too rich on the top will make it sputter and smok as you roll the throttle on, not stutter and die. Have you made sure you don't have any leaks on the intake? Even a small leak around the boot or even a slight leak at the head on a small four stroke will cause major problems with carburation. Did you order the kit from Stroker or just a motorcycle supply house?
Hope I'm making it seem like you don't have a clue, but just needed a little more info to give you a hand.

no, no smoke. I'm thinking the main jet is about right due to the fact that if i go to 1/4 throttle slowly and then rail it is doesn't hicup or smoke and pulls wheelsatnds down the street. THe problem is only in that first off idle situation. The other "to rich clue that I had was that the choke made it worse when I opened it up to test. I did order the kit through stroker and am going to call them today and see about their recomendations. Don't worry about making me feel dumb...While I understand jetting theory my practical application is limited...diesels don't have carbs to jet ;-)

I have the same carb on mine and stroker sent me a bunch of diferent needle jets (not the needle) I can't remember which was stock but I had a p-0,p-2,&p4 needle jets and what I found best was to use the p0 (leanest)with the 15 pilot and I raised the needle 1 clip I think. (maybe 2) I now have perfect low throttle response and it will NEVER cough and die. I am running the main a little fat though 130. I have soot in the pipe but it runs the way I like it. The needle jets can be changed right through the bottom of the float bowl. I ride at 7000' elevation.

I'm starting to think the problem is in the pumper itself...possibly injecting early and hitting the slide. No amount of jet change seems to change the cough. Its still ridable, really only see it on the stand so...to stoneyford I go.

You are describing a lean bog. Lower the clip on the jet needle groove and see what it does. Even with spot on jetting you can make the KLX hiccup slightly if you snap the throttle wide open from idle, particularly sitting on the stand with no load. If you change too many things at once, it can get confusing. Your main is probably ok, I would concentrate on the pilot jet and needle position.
