Have you everwondered after you have changed the engine oil and filter if the little spring behind the oil filter is seated properly. I have never had any problems but I always wonder if it is seated correctly. I lay the bike on its side to install the spring and filter, anybody have a different or better way to do this? 98KLX300 AMA,NMA,BRC

nope but now i'll have nightmares lol . like u do it or a gob of grease to stick it to the filter works.

I spread the spring enough that it is a easy press fit into the little nubs in the filter housing.

I've always had the bike on it's side, with the gas off of course. I've never had a problem. Anyone know of an aftermarket filter? That OEM one is pricey.

Scott's of the steering damper fame makes an all stainless steel filter. You clean it and then reistall it ------------------------------------------->>98klx ama, nma, brc

i used to use a gob of grease to hold the spring in place, but then, on a suggestion from someone on planetklx mailinglist, i spread the bottom of the spring so it's a snug press fit into the little recess it lives in. every time i've changed the filter since, it's been right where it belongs.

I'm running the scotts stainless filter. They say to clean it every other oil change or so. Its paid for itself rather quickly at the cost of paper filters.

Excellent idea on the spring, I'll do that next time around :D
