new Xr won't idle ?

In March bought a new XR250, got it home and rode it 4 miles. It's been sitting for 4 weeks; no starts. Finally after getting a chance to ride, got it out and it took forever to start. After getting it started, it would not idle. Rode it down the street and it died twice. It also sounds like it has a miss. I adjusted on the idle screw; it did not help. Any ideas?

Try to clean the carb, my did that same thing also(year old though). After that it started right up.

Just from my limited experience (and I have no scientific data to back this up) I have found that four-strokes are generally cold-blooded creatures and that they like to be started at least once a week. Any more than that and I've had to kick a few more times to get them to light off. I agree with the carb cleaning advice, too. Any sediment that has settled could have clogged your pilot jet. I doubt (although I guess it's not impossible) that the fuel has gelled any significant amount. I think a good carb cleaning and some fresh fuel and she will be a new machine. Just kick her over once every weekend if you aren't riding it regularly. And pour that old gas into the family station wagon! :D
