Wife Bike wanted

Ok, I think I've got her ready. Now that my son is ridingall the time, she wants to get involved too. I am looking for a nice bike for her somewhere around $ 1000 to $1300.
She's not very tall so no 125's and stuff like that unless they are lowered. She's a former BMX pro, so I figure she'll ride circles around me in no time. :o
I was thinking of ttr or KX 100 or ????
Any ideas are much appreciated!

A kx100 would be good, but as you know it would not be the easiest thing to learn on. If she can drive a manual transmission car, the KX100 is what I would get if it fits her. It would not be as easy to grow out of as a TTR125. See if you can take her somewhere she might be able to try out a few different bikes, and let her make the decision. The good thing about the TTR is that it's real easy to sell one for close to what you paid for it when she is done with it. The same cannot be said for the KX100 unless you keep it super clean

Wolf,

It has been a long time. I only raced an hour at Byron. I got impatient, disgusted, mad so I quit. I only raced an hour. As the temperature rose during the day my bike got worse and worse on the bottom end. It would spit and sputter then clear up as my rpms would rise. So I loaded up and headed for home(2.5 hr drive). I spoke to the man(Fredette) on Monday and he gave me a few things to check. I ended up doing the followinf to my bike. Reeds(warped),went back to stock jetting, lowered my float height in the carb(I think that was my prblem all along it was to high),and last but not least I adjusted my throttle free play( It was way out of adjustment)(Too much slack). As soon as I adjusted the cable It has instant snap off the bottom end I was starting to get frustrated with the kdx but know it rips. Sorry for posting here. I know you are looking for a bike. I just thought I would reply back.

Bmx Pro I envy you

Wish I could find somebody like that.

98 KDX 220

Wolf, I would be careful on the KX100. they are basiclly a 80 on steroids.
A friend of mine bought one for his wife, and she never did get the hang of it. No bottom end to speak of and hits and revs hard. Get her an XR 100 or ttr125, I think you and her will be happy. IMO

Unless she's really motivated to become a "rider", get her the TTR(L). If she's anything like Scooter, she doesn't ride all that often, but likes to getout once a month or so. In her case the TTR is perfect. I can promise you she'd hate a 80. No way I'd start her out on one.

Resale on the TTR is strong. Can't lose IMO.

If I could find a TTR I would do that. However, she won't let me spend more than 1300 on a bike for her as she thinks she'll ride "occasionally".
I am not too keen on the 80's or 100's for all of the above reasons. If I could find a cheap KDX I could lower that for her?

My wife learned to ride in the TN woods on a KX100. The only modification I did was to put a flywheel weight on. The thing lugs like a tractor which is good because my wife is no speed freak. We tried some smaller 4strokes but she did not like the harder starting on hills after a crash plus she prefers the suspension on the KX. The flywheel weight moves the hit farther up the power band making it easy for her to ride below the hit, especially on hils. This has been a great learning bike for her. We are now thinking of moving her to a torque modified 125.

Hey wolf take a ride up to our place sometime and pick up Trudy's TTR125 for a couple of days. She can ride it and decide if it is right for her. We aren't selling it but at least she would get an idea if she wants more bike

You might look for an older XR or XL. A little heavy, but not to bad on the cost, plus they are just plan hard to kill for a begining rider. I saw a KDX200 yesterday for 1,700. It was a 95 model and very clean. I imagine you might be able to talk her into that. A "button" would cure the hardstart in thumper deal, but you will proably have to pay a lot more for something with one.

The xr and ttr's are both excellent choices and can also be extremely fun for other (that would be you) riders, be it in the pits or the trees. I believe that some of the first ttr's are in the $1500 range, and the xr 100's and 200's should be around that as well (if you can find one for sale - quite hard). I would second the motion to stay away from the kx 100.

Thanks guys, I think I am going to try and find a ttr. I showed her one yesterday at Wardy's place and that was the first time that she was not intimidated by height or size.
O.G. I might take you up on that. If you need a place to ride during the week, let me know. We ride at a friends track quite often. Bring the kid and we could chase him around a little!
