Will McGrath come back and beat RC next year?

Posted by: marcusgunby---------------------

hard to say im impressed with MC for not buckling after his poor start to the season but i dont think he has it to win against RC or DV.He needs to ride the nationals to stay fit if he wants to do 03.

Posted by: JuliusPleaser---------------------

I'd like to see MC win again. It's not gonna get easier, though. If he sits out the Nationals, he'll probably not beat RC in a straight fight.

Posted by: motohead00---------------------

That's a tough question and I have my own thoughts on favorites. I like RC and am glad he is doing good, but still can't imagine the sport without Jeremy. He will be missed if he isn't on the gate.

Posted by: HiG4s---------------------

The big question is will he get a supercross win this year and make it nine years in a row with a supercross win, the record is 10 years in a row. Maybe he should ride a 125 at Vegas to get a win!! I mean Bubba will crash and all he would have to do is stay smooth and convince Reed to race the 250 class.

Posted by: nephron---------------------

MC is "cherry-pickin'" the 250 class.
It's time he moved on to HS/GNCC class.

Posted by: Patman---------------------

He'll be back next year. I think he will be in better riding shape (i.e. not overtrained on strength trainning) and able to do the job. I also believe if things go poorly that next year WILL be it.

Posted by: justql---------------------

Good question. He has nothing to prove. Everyone seems to forget he is still one of the best in the world. Not used to be but STILL IS. I think he'll be back stronger than ever.

Posted by: mx547---------------------

he's still a great rider and capable of winning races but i think his championship contending seasons are behind him (unless of course there are multiple injuries to other riders). i hope he keeps racing anyway. the more old guys out there, the better.

Posted by: TheGrinch---------------------

I'm dying to see him win a main event. He has won a couple of the qualifiers, and even lead a couple of mains; but just can't seem to hold on to the lead. I think he needs to work on his stamina. If he wants to win, he's got to be strong for 20 laps, not just 8.

I hope he can do it next year.

Posted by: KDX220rm---------------------

He's washed up, he should of retired this year.

He needs to let the new kids on the block be the winners.

Posted by: Kaw_Boy_5---------------------

Washed up? Last time I checked he was third in points. That's a pretty bold (or maybe dumb) statement.

Posted by: michigan---------------------

Who cares if he wins? He's still a great guy to have at the races. He is good with the fans, he's still one of the fastest guys on the track, and he is unbelievable smooth. I really enjoy watching him ride, and I think there are thousands of others that do to.

Posted by: Mully---------------------

I think what KDX220RM actually means is that "maybe" supercross has passed him by. Meaning the new generation is now in their prime and MC has gotten a little long in the tooth for the sport. This happens. I feel the sport of Supercross has taken a giant step up from when Jeremy first started. I do believe he has it in him to win a main now and then, but to be on top the whole year, well I just don't know. I myself would love to see him switch to off road. A lot of supercross/motocross riders have made the switch successfully and continued doing what they love, riding/racing dirt bikes.

Posted by: michigan---------------------

It would be cool to see him do some offroad, but I still think its kind of odd to say that someone who is #3 in the 250 point standings is washed up and can't hang with the new kids.
There might be two guys on earth who are consistently faster than Jeremy, but I have a feeling that they could learn a lot from McGrath about how to make the fans happy.

I'd be willing to bet there are 17 other guys on the gate every week that WISH they were riding so well while being as long in the tooth as MC

We all just have the mentality now that second place is the first loser. Anyone remember who was #2 in all the years McGrath dominated? Last year? I can only come up with a couple off the top of my head.

And 3rd place? Fuggedaboutit!

I'm not saying that the 2nd or 3rd place guy sucks, I'm just saying that's how people are today. Heck, can you name all the Superbowl losers? (without looking at NFL.com! )

Posted by: jpuetz---------------------

I just find it slightly insulting for 4th in 250 points on back. Here we are talking about an old, washed-up, has been, should pack it up and leave town 3rd in 250 points rider, while forgetting that there a ton of really good 250 riders that he is currently ahead of. This has to be one of the most talented 250 supercross years I can remember.
Yeah, MC is finished. Just think where he may be in points if he would have raced more than 8 laps per race the first 6 rounds.

Posted by: BEEF706---------------------

I hope he comes beck next year for all the reasons mentioned so far, he IS an asset to the sport. I also hope he does whatever he needs to do to be in racing shape from the beginning (Ithink he oughta race the nationals too, but so far he has not called to ask me) so that we have the best show possible. Do I think he would beat RC if they are both at the top of their game? Not for a championship. I think he is still the most skilled rider in the world, but RC is willing to go past his considerable skill level to win, and I don't think MC will, thats not a criticism of MC, I just don't think he will push hard enough every week. It would be fun to find out I'm wrong though.

Posted by: Philip---------------------

I think he is great for the sport and I'm glad Josh was able to see the greatest before he hangs it up. I think he will be back next year, but with RC,TP, DV, and the rest pushing so hard for a title it will be tough for him get back on top. If he does come back make sure you go watch him race, even as good as RC is he still has a ways to go to accomplish what MC has.

I think MC CAN win it all Just not sure if he is WILLING to push that hard.

Let me say it another way. It is obvious that MC is on the backside of his career, but I will not say he is washed up. And he is obviously better then all but two riders in the series. I wish I had 1/100th of his talent. I hope he stays around for several more years and can make another run to the top. But.......

That is pretty much the most pathetic thing I've seen posted on here in quite some time. Get a clue. The guy struggles a bit compared to past seasons and you immediately write him off. Simple fact is that the guy is still accumulating more points than the likes of Lusk, Roncada, Ramsey, Fonseca, Wey, Tortelli, etc., etc., etc.....would you also put forth the argument that these riders are washed up? Would you say LaRocco is washed up as well? He's consistently been #3 in points for several years, but has never clinched a SX title. Since he doesn't finish #1, does that imply that he should also quit racing?

Come on buddy. Surely you're not this ignorant?

Posted by: Mully---------------------

Easy Roosteater, this isn't the flame forum. Everyone is entitled to there own opinions. And that happens to be KDX200RM's.

Point taken. I'll crawl back in my hole now.

Posted by: Senior KX Rider---------------------

He will be back. Might be on the backside of his career but he is still the biggest name in the sport .

Posted by: slo' mo---------------------

I thinks it's all a mental thing with MC. He has to get the desire to dominate back in him. Being a great rider, he's known that for years. That's what separates him from RC in my opinion. You watch Ricky and he wants not just to win but to dominate and he rides like it. Talent can get you by for so long, then somebody comes along who wants it more and is willing to do whatever it takes to win. That's RC. I have learned to respect him for his ability and heart. He's not my favorite, but he isn't the flash-in-the-pan I thought he might be.

Posted by: Senior KX Rider---------------------

A lot of it is a mental thing but JMac is also going to have to try a different approach to prepping himself physically before the season. He is not 20 anymore and he will need to be ready. Maybe he should study Mike LaRoccos workout regimen.

Posted by: dirt bike dave---------------------

Jeremy is clearly the greatest SX rider of all time.

My guess is he will continue racing SX for 2 more years of declining results. He will remain popular and a great asset to the sport. I hope he can win one or two more finals, but IMO he will be fortuante to match this year's 3rd in the championship.

Everybody gets older - even the king.

Posted by: Stretch374---------------------

MC has given so much to this sport even if he never wins again he will always be one of the greatest ever. It definitely doesn't hurt the sport for him to show up and race as long as he is competitive. (Top 10)

What I would love to see is for him to get at least one other 250 rider and maybe 2 125 riders for his team.

To build a great team is about all that is left for him to give to this sport.

Posted by: zcookie49---------------------

I'm pretty sure I read an intvw with MC and he said he will be back next year. MC is still one of the best, but IMO, I think that he would like to win another championship but is also happy with 7 250 sx titles though. That is why I think he will not raise his riding style to the fast pace of RC. RC is 21 and very hungry, MC has been there and done that. I think he doesnt want to get injured by pushing himself past his comfort on the saddle. Now do I really know, No, that is just my thoughts. It seemed evident when RC passed him from being down at 19th and blitzed MC in the rhythm section, all MC could do was look over at RC in shock. That to me is proof that he will is comfortable with what he has acheived. I would definatley like to see MC back and to do well. It is what makes racing now so good.

Posted by: JUSTRIDE415---------------------

He won 7 sx titles yes he is good yes but he got spoiled with his titles! he is equivelent to a larocco this year but look at what he did in MX one a title couldn't win it back so he quit! the guy looks like a quitter

o no i am probably gonna get bad mojo for my opinion :whiner: :silly:

Posted by: Robbie---------------------

I think MC will come back next year and try to beat RC. Like everyone said, everybody loves him and wants him to keep racing. He's a great influence on people who are new to the sport. I think he will have a hard time beating TP, DV and RC, though. I think he needs to try a different workout routine.

Posted by: 2001yz250---------------------

When you've won as many SX titles as MC, how can you NOT be on the backside of your career, unless he plans to race for 10 more years! I believe MC can beat anybody at anytime, its just a matter of motivation and training. The older you get, the more energy you have to put out to get the same results as when your younger, which means he would have to want it more than he used to. I don't understand where he gets his motivation, he's got every record that ever was except the 10 years in a row one. I doubt that RC will dominate for as long as MC has, but then there's a whole different set of factors now as far as talent pool, money, technology, and TV coverage than in the '90s and I think we should thank MC for that! According to KDX220rm, there would only be 2 guys in the 250 SX class. When MC does retire from racing, I hope to see him as a commentator for the new era of Supercross coverage!!

Posted by: Patman---------------------

What kind of super team would this be?
McGrath & Emig as owners/managers
Goose & Bubba on 125's
Travis & Chad Reed on 250's

Jeremy has a ton to offer up to and comming riders. His smooth style and ability to pick lines like nobody else. As long as he likes what he's doing I don't care if he's getting lapped, there is nothing to prove in my book.
