Concerts?

When was the last time you went to a concert? Mine was last Friday, saw the band Prong....before that, it had been at least 5 years.
And which was your favorite concert?
Posted by: dklink2000---------------------
I'm going to a big fest called music midtown here in atlanta this weekend. It's three days, if you name the group they are probably playing. I can't wait!
Posted by: crkid---------------------
i go to little shows at clubs and things about twice a month. i can't pick a favorite, but my two favorite were Stretch Armstrong and Poison the Well, i got pretty well bruised from both but definately worth it.
Posted by: mx547---------------------
last one i went to was seventh day slumber and superchic . i'm going to see jars of clay and jennifer knapp this thursday. these are concerts that i can take my kids to. my favorite concert was the who in 1982 at texas stadium. this was after keith moon died. i can only imagine how good it would have been with him. keith was cool.
biggest disappointment was eric clapton in 1978 in tulsa. i thought it would blow me away. instead it was lame, boring and uninspired.

I saw Kent Duchaine at a party Saturday night. He plays a really old steel-bodied guitar that sounds amazing. Pretty good show for a one man band.
The last concert I attended was CAKE at a 1930's movie palace called The Alabama Theater in February. The opening act was The Hackensaw Boys, and they were definitely one step beyond the norm. My date was not a Cake fan when we got there, but she was when we left. Cake is one of my all-time favorite bands.
As far as picking a favorite. . .it would have to be Elvis Costello at the Tabernacle in Atlanta a few years ago. Rush/Cheap Trick/ The Motors would be a close second. I saw them at the Fox in Atlanta in '76 or '77. :scream:

i saw elvis costello a few years ago too. nick lowe opened for him, then played bass in his band.
Posted by: cweingartz---------------------
I must say that the most fun I ever had at a concert was the Steve Miller Band.
Posted by: JuliusPleaser---------------------
It was Oct. 28th, '99 to be exact. (I found the ticket stub.) Elvis was semi-unplugged that night. He had no opening act and the show was terrific.
Elvis and I go waaaay back. I had his early stuff on 8-track and vinyl.

First: sometime in '71, Ted Nugent & the Amboy(sp?) Dukes/Brownsville Station, Cobo Hall Detroit. Don't remember the last one, probably a good thing too. Kidding... Aerosmith, Alpine Valley.
Memorables (not in chronologial order):
Beck, Bogert, Appice
Beck With Jan Hammer
Mahogany Rush (Frank Marino, World Anthem, '76)
Zepplin, Song Remains The Same
SRV, Dallas
Pink Floyd, Animals
U2, Red Rocks Colorado, 1982?
Moody Blues, Red Rocks
Eagles, Hotel California, Comiskey Park, 1977
Steppin Wolf... can't remember the club
Robin Trower (Bridge of Sighs Tour)
Pat Travers Crash & Burn, '81

Oh and JP?
I'm REALLY worried about you my friend. Oct. 28th, '99 ? Oooookay.
Posted by: Camstyn---------------------
Last summer, Morbid Angel/Static-X/Slayer/Pantera. It blew me away, what an experience..
The last one before that was Taproot opening for Deftones, which didn't impress me much.
Posted by: motohead00---------------------
Last concert was Aerosmith in '97. Best was Rush in '91 for rock-n-roll. Other than that my favorite country concert was George Strait Music Festival in New Orleans.
Posted by: mx547---------------------
oh yeah, my first: foghat and black oak arkansas in '74 or '75. i was 15, my buddy was 16. it was supposed to be outdoors but it rained all day. they moved it inside an exposition building. no chairs, the entire floor was covered with rain water and beer. we got to give my buddy's sister's friend a ride home after they got seperated. she was about 20 at the time. we thought that we were so cool. we were hoping that people would see us with her. :o
anyone remember black oak?
jim dandy to the rescue...
Posted by: Hucker---------------------
NOFX, No use for a Name, Ten Foot Pole. Dec of '94. Way before punk was cool.
Posted by: Jeff Gilbert---------------------
1st concert (under my breath) Sonny & Cher, I was about 10 years old.
1st rock concert was Kansas, cast on my leg and in the nose bleed section. From what I remember (head was in the fog) the show kicked butt and I got a good massage on my leg from the vibration. That was the Left Overture Album.
Worst concert was Fleetwood Mac.
Best musicians and most intense show was Dream Theater
Seen the most was Pat Travers
The craziest was Sammy Hagar
The one I didn't want to see but was most impressed and best sound, Heart.
Most stupid crowd, Dead Horse!!
Loudest> G3 tour 2001.
A few more thrown in were, Journey, Boston, Van Halen, Cinderella, Bon Jovi, Foghat, Def Lepard, Steve Via, Eric Johnson, Bugs Henderson, Van Wilkes, Warrant and more.
Country is another chapter. I've opened for Micheal Peterson, Jerry Jeff Walker, Hank III, Gary Stewart, Mark Chestnut, Perfect Stranger, Daryl Dodd, Andy Griggs and more.
Have also played with the Coasters, "Now That's Rock & Roll."
Country I've seen, Alabama, Hank Williams Jr, Diamond Rio, Clint Black, Charlie Daniels and believe it or not Marshall Tucker was in one of those shows.
I could go on if I could only remember, life is beginning to take it's toll on me.
I can't remember all the bands I've seen over the years, I had a girl friend whos cousin was VP of Rainbow Ticket Master so i went to all the shows from the late 70's to the mid 80's.
I had the opportunity to work with Ted Nugent a few times (sound) as well as Pat Travers. Got to eat dinner with Clint Black, why do they always have bar-b-que?
Almost forgot! I got to ride with BunduBasher

It was Elvis Costello, not Elvis the Pelvis. It was a surprise, too. My ex actually did ONE thing during our relationship that didn't suck.
Dude, you saw U2 at Red Rocks? Jeff Beck, Travers, Marino, and Carmine Appice, too? You ROCK!
Now, Hucker you should worry about.
Before Punk was cool? You mean 1977?
Posted by: Okiewan---------------------
Yea, they filmed the Red Rocks thing, great show.
Ah, got me on the Elvis.
One more I forgot, Joe Jackson... actually a good show.
And no, I don't Rock, they do
Posted by: DahlElama---------------------
Been to many... but the most enjoyable concert ever for me was definately Jimmy Buffett 91' Tour at the Gorge in George WA. I spent 3 days at a 2 day show...
Posted by: biglou---------------------
U2 @ Red Rock. Man, those are some powerful videos. Anyone listen to older U2? Remember "Gloria" off the "Boy" album (I think)? "New Year's Day" has to be my favorite U2 song. Gives me goosebumps. Anyone ever see that video?
Bands-Seen too many to remember. Got a beer mug stuffed to the gills with tickets from a lifetime of concerts. Foghat (yeah!), Kiss, Ted Nugent, Alice in Chains, Slayer, Anthrax, Judas Priest, Testament, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Prong, Soundgarden, VoiVod, Pantera, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Aerosmith, Heart, REO Speedwagon, Molley Hatchet, ZZTop, Quiet Riot, Fastway, AC/DC, etc... It would take me a week to list them all and many are multiple time groups.
BTW-Robin Trower's "BLT", very cool album. I've still got a lot of vinyl!
Posted by: Smitty---------------------
Technical 1st: Emmy Lou Harris (as a baby w/ my parents)
Real 1st: Allman Brothers in Telluride, CO with Widespread Panic and Taj Mahal (1989?)
Favorites: Rage, Tool, Primus, Ministry, Reverend Horton Heat, Limp Bizkit (@ Caines Ballroom in Tulsa opening for Primus back in 96 or 97,uh-huh!)
Favorite: Deftones @ the Bronco Bowl in Dallas
Wish I could have seen: Nirvana, Stevie Ray Vaughn (in a dive beer joint.)

Couple of workmates went to see TOOL the other night, they said it was great.
First and only concert for me was Iron Maiden, mid eighties, I think.
JP, Cake rock, " I need your arms around me, I need to feel your touch"
gotta set that as my windows start up. lol.
U2 at Red Rock, would have been awesome.
Big Lou - Sunday Bloody Sunday, what a song!!!!
Major goosebumps

I can count all the concerts I've been to on one hand. The first one was Alabama (with parents as a kid, kinda okay). Then the original Monsters of Rock Tour (Kingdom Come, Dokken, Metallica, Scorpions, and Van Halen -- 1988?), Def Leppard (1990), Aerosmith (1991), and ZZ Top (1992).
Monsters of Rock was cool, and the best bang for the buck (we thought $25 for a ticket was steep!), but my favorites were Aerosmith and ZZ Top.
Don't know who I'd pay to see now . . .
Posted by: CR307---------------------
Put my vote for best concert PINK FLOYD! I have seen them twice and would any amount of money to go again!
Posted by: Danman---------------------
I have pretty good collection of ticket stubs. Did not save all of them , but I have a lot. The first real concert that I went to was the Texas Jam. Aerosmith, Boston, Tesla, Poison (passed out in the hallway at the cotton bowl through their whole set) and some unknown band who never became much of anything. I made all of the Monsters of Rock concerts that came through Dallas. Pink Flyod at Texas Stadium with the Mometry Laps of Reason tour. Clash of the Titans in the early 90s was a particlarly wild concert. Hugh bondfires on the Grass at the starplex with swirling masses of moshers around them.
I recently saw KISS and Pearl Jam last year. Those were about the best we got through here last year. Unfortunatly, other than the local bands I don't make many these days. I might try to get tickets to the Eagles (they are talking over 100 bucks or so for decent tickets) or Kid Rock.
Man, what happend to 18.50 for a ticket and 15 bucks for shirt? KISS was outragously exspensive, but I got good Free tickets so I went from someone I work with who could not make it.

I guess it was about 1989 when I saw Blues Traveler at a small club in NYC called the 'Wetlands' I think. That band could whip people into a frenzy, even back then when they didn't have a record deal. John Popper (the big guy/singer/harmonica player was about the nicest guy you ever met).
That's my most recent assuming that seeing Dana Carvey do stand up at the State Theater doesn't count as a 'concert'.
Oh, and I haven't wanted to see a band in concert until I heard of Garbage, damn thats some beautiful garbage
Posted by: JuliusPleaser---------------------
Lou, I was a U2 fan from the moment I heard "I Will Follow" off their 1978 release Boy. I've never seen them live though. I have their entire catalog, including POP!. :silly: Gotta let that one slide. . .
I also have the entire REM catalog. I bought their initial EP (Chronic Town) after I saw them play at 688 in Atlanta. Everybody HATED them, including the local fishwrapper critic.
His review of their EP was along the lines of "This band has succeeded in recording the same song six times."
I never dreamed that either of those bands would become heavyweights in the music arena.

The last concert I attended was my favorite one yet. 311 on 311 day(3/11/02). They played for over 4 hours
Posted by: gospeedracer---------------------
Okay, now don't laugh............
The only concert I've ever been to was the Peter, Paul & Mary concert I took my Mother to for her birthday a loooong time ago.
That is if you don't count the Regae Sun Splash concert I went to in Santa Barbara. That was more of a 'pass the doobie sit in' than a concert. I left before it was over. I couldn't stand the smell of the unwashed, dred locked, hippies I was surrounded by.
Posted by: Okiewan---------------------
Peter, Paul & Mary ?
Now why do I believe that ?
Posted by: Trail Boss---------------------
First Concert: Elvis, don't laugh, The King was great, & it was great show, I was like 13 and went with my mom. She stood in line to get those tickets.
I've been to MANY concerts, and I'll tell you, you have seen Nothing until you've seen out of control Elvis fans trying to rush the stage. The front of the stage was literally lined with cops in helmets and clubs trying to keep the overweight / middle aged groupies from jumping the stage, very scary.
Too Many others to list or remember:
Kiss , Ozzy, Krocus, Steve Miller, Ted Nugent, Eric Clapton
BB King, Alman Brothers, Robert Plant, The Firm, YES
Live Aid, Philadelphia—Now THAT was a party!
Ronnie Lane ARMS concert
RUSH- Many Times
SRV, Quiet Riot, ZZ-top
GTR – Anyone remember them?
Judas Priest, Santana
U2, Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Def Leopard
Robin Trower – Small club in CT – Loudest Concert I’ve ever seen
BOSTON – Best sound of any live music I ever attended
Twisted Sister – MOST Bizarre moment – They were SOOooo bad that a buddy of mine grabbed the singer's foot ( Dee Snyder) and tried to pull him off stage, he almost got him off, but one of the guitarists came over to spear my buddy in the head with his guitar, I pulled him away and we made a quick get away- Biggest waste of money at a concert, strange night.
And many Blues guys in small dark, smokey clubs, Buddy Guy, Albert Collins, etc.
And on and on – I’ll have to look through my T-Shirt and ticket stub collection, haven’t thought of them for a while I bet they’re worth a few bucks, not that I’d ever sell.
Best Concert ever: While I was lucky to see SRV several times one stands out- I brought my Fender Strat and got to go on the band's bus after the show while he signed it. I was lucky to hang with them & have a few beers for a while that night. He was a great guy, very nice to a fan.

First concert I was to young to appreciate. Does anyone remember Led Zepplin?!? My favorites include:
1. My band opening up for Blue Oyster Cult, Lynch Mob, Jake E Lee & Badlands (in the early 90's and not at the same gig)
2. "Monsters of Rock" at Castle Donnington in the UK. Bands included; AC/DC, Slade, Motorhead (circa 1982)
3. "The lost 80's Weekend" featuring Poison, Dokken & Cinderella (a couple of years ago)
My last concert was OZZFEST at the Shoreline. It was great seeing Sabbath again.
My next concert: A second "Lost 80's Weekend" featuring Poison, Cinderella, Faster *****cat & warrant. Ought to be loads of fun seeing folks trying to sqeeze themselves in to their old minis, spandex and leathers.
Posted by: GETMETOCA---------------------
First concert I COULD have gone to was Journey (1978 Oakland Colusium). I won the tickets off the radio station but since I was only 12 at the time....parents would not take me and...well....okay the tickets went to waste....SORRY!
