Headphones, Music & Work

Anybody else here work while listening to tunes at work? I can't seem to concentrate as well without music. This morning has been an easy 70's day so far. I have Dusty Springfield, Lobo, Looking Glass, Al Stewart, Starbuck, Little River Band, Cat Stevens, Don McLean, Arlo Guthrie, Dr. Hook, Gerry Rafferty and Harry Nillson lined up on WinAmp right now. What are you guys listening to?

Posted by: bsmith---------------------

A little Nsync and I mix in the occasional Brittney hit

Posted by: biglou---------------------

Yesterday it was Anthrax and Iron Maiden. Pretty much the same kinda music that you mentioned! :D If I'm feeling mellow I might throw in some Disturbed or something...

Posted by: bsmith---------------------

Funny Lou, I pictured you as more of the "Eye of the tiger type"

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

I listen to easy stuff too, a lot of the same artist that you mentioned. Train is pretty good too. I've been listening to the Drops Of Jupiter CD today. I can't concentrate as good with the heavy stuff while at work. That's for getting pumped up while on the way to the track

Drops of Jupiter?? What the heck? Do you take trips outside of your body too!? I listen to soothing easy listening music at work cause you guys get me all riled up! Music is a guarantee at my desk. :D

I listen to talk radio all day..... 97.1FM

If it will get you riled up then yes I do

Lou, I have about 1,000 MP3's on the laptop right now with another 3,500 on the way as soon as my co-worker brings his hard drive in. That means I have a huge variety, just in a mood today alright  After lunch I'll post my list that keeps me awake dangit!

Posted by: XRpredator---------------------

Lucky bastages. The next machine I get in here will have mp3 capability. Trouble is, I'll have to have someone show me how to download the tunes!

Posted by: biglou---------------------

Don't get me wrong, I listen to some easy stuff, too. Natalie Merchant, Tori Amos, and some others that I can't think of. Some classical, and a lot of really weird stuff, too. Elvis Costello :D, Devo, and of course all the classics like Zeppelin, Who, Yes, Deep Purple, Cream, plus most rap stuff from back in the day like RUN-DMC, Fat Boys, Beasties, Ice-T, even a little country now and then, especially the older stuff, and on and on... The only thing I don't like is "Manufactured Music". Hip-hop or whatever it's called. Stuff like Brittany Spears and NSYNC. I hate that mass-marketed, commercialized crap.

RM, just keep your outta body experiences in NY!
Pred, here, listen to this, it's a tune by the Twincheeks!

I wish I could listen to music at work! I wouldn't really be able to hear anything well over all the machinery going on around me on the drilling rig. Between the mud pumps, diesel engines and the drawworks squealilng, you have to wear earplugs most of the time to keep from going deaf.

And, the other drawback is that it is a safety issue as far as headphones go. We have to be listening for alarms in case a situation arises where we are in an abandonment situation or the well needs to be controlled to keep formation pressures from wreaking havoc with us.

When I do have the chance out there, my playlist varies:

Linkin Park
Alice in Chains
Arlo Guthrie
Great Divide
Kid Rock
Disturbed
Staind
Conway Twitty
Great Divide
Pat Green
Robert Earl Keen
Jerry Jeff Walker
Crazy Town
and others....

The funny thing about me wearing headphones at work is I tend to sing along sometimes. You get some really strange looks when you start belting out Linkin Park "In the End" LOL
